help installing tach
I've put my in-dash tach into my original cluster and now am confused on the wiring. It's an Autometer Sport-comp and it has 5 wires. A white and black coming from the 12v lighting, and then a red, black, and green wire from the main lead. Also, I have HEI and the top of the Delco Remy dizzy it has a little block that sticks out on the driver side and it says "tach bat" on the end of the little block but I don't see where I would connect a wire. Any help would be appreciated!!

Re: help installing tach
If you pull the cap off the coil, you should see 2 prongs (one for the tach and one for the batt) going down into that block. To hook up the tach you go under that block and hook the wire up to the tach prong.

Re: help installing tach
OK, how about the white wire that is supposed to go to the in-dash lighting. Where to connect that? Fuse panel?

Re: help installing tach
I connected mine to the fuse panel becuase I was too lazy to hook it up to the dash light wire. The light on my tach is on whenever the key is on now. The correct wire according to the diagram posted on another thread is gray which is the instrument panel lights.

Re: help installing tach
Red - 12 volts with key on.
Green - "Tach" connection on HEI or "-" side of coil if you still run your points distributor. White - goes to the dash lights wire - usually a gray wire on this vintage of Chevy. Hooking it to your gray wire will allow you to dim the tach light with the rest of the dash lights. The gray wire that goes to the light behind your heater controls is a safe bet. Blacks - Chassis ground. |
Re: help installing tach
no need to find a wire or splice anything... there is a terminal on the fuse box. In this picture, it is under the cl on the words clister feed.
