1966 gmc with factory v6
 

i found a 1966 gmc with long narrow bed (no tail gate) it has a factory v 6 and 4 speed on the floor the guy said it will run
is this truck of any value?
he wants about $300.00?

V6 will run a long time but hard to add a/c or p/s ,four speed will be a sm420 if original - very tough and a granny first used for off roading allot.

my son just picked up a 67 with a long narrow bed. Actually, it belong to his great grandpa, and he is going to try to rebuild it. Ic came with a 292 6 cyl and a 4 speed on the floor. It now has the 250 in it, but he wants to put a 327 in it. Does anyone know if the 327 would bolt to the tranny? Would this have been a stock option?

Lets see, you have some options you need to find out about on this one, 1966 was the first year for the 351E V6 as an option, the stanard engine is the 305E V6. also the trans could be the SM420 or the New Process 435-GA, which way is reverse? to the driver & down is the SM420, to the passenger & down is the New Process 435-GA.

If the truck has the 351E then is way under priced at $300, if it has the 305E it's still a good deal.

I'd have it in my yard already if I came across a deal like that.

Rbauer, the 327 should bolt right up to the same transmission. The original right side motor mount for the 292 was kicked forward a few inches, but if someone put a 250 in it then the 327 should drop right in the same mounts too. The clutch and flywheel from the 250 should also fit the 327. Sometime in the 67-72 bodystyle they started moving the V8 engines closer to the front, but even so it should still fit. The dist may be very close to the firewall, but there should be plenty of room for a point distributor. An HEI dist might be too big. The 327 engine was a factory option in the pickups since 1966(some say late 1965).

:agree: if I had to choose between a running V-6 and a small block for the same price I'd go with the V-6, and not do what most people do.

never mind, I see your talking about a 67 and not the 66 GMC, worng forum for 67 truck right...
