wtb: eaton 3rd
I think I may have posted this before, but thought a follow up might be due. I am trying to find an eaton 3rd with 4.10's and a posi setup. I have a 4.56 with an open rear.....and after sometime in the mud this weekend, I would like to upgrade. If you are willing to ship let me know, otherwise, please be within a reasonable driving distance.

well, I have a 4.10 out of a 72 longhorn, it's an open diff though. A dude was supposed to swing by last month to get it, I PM'd him and have heard nothing.
I was gonna get 100 bucks plus ride or pick up locally. I guess since he is like a month late with no contact... I can sell it if you are interested. I don't know if you figure 190 miles as fairly close or not... but I'm in Columbus straight south of you. |

stick with the 4.57's and buy a detroit locker for a 14B. Buy stock shafts as well for the 14B, stuff it all in, and you are gravy. The 14B stuff will work in an eaton, its been tried, and is true. There was no posi available as far as I know for the eatons, so either you go with a detroit, weld the spider gears (lincoln locker) or stay open.
The detroit fits inside the two piece carrier, so you dont have to pay to have your gears reset. Its a fairly simple locker to install. Check fleabay, they pop-up from time to time, ranging from $300-400. The 14B detroit and shafts are stronger than the eaton detroit btw. |

While the upgrades you mention all make sence...why stay with a 4.57 on atruck that sees freeways more than mud? :confused:

Eaton made what was called a "no-spin" 3rd member for the H052 eaton axle. mainly for the 4wd and 1ton. My records indicate that is was only available in 4.11 and 4.56 ratios. This makes it almost impossible to find but it was factory in some.

I have a 4.10 center section with the adjustable pinion load deflection bolt, and factory No-Spin (or detroit locker). The unit was factory in a 1972 K20 Super Cheyenne that I once owned. I put about 500 miles on it in 2004 in my 68 C30, but then changed to a 4.10 open.
No one is stepping up with one for sale, so I will offer mine. $400 plus shipping. You can figure a box 18x18x28 at 149 pounds if you would like to figure out shipping. FedEx ground or DHL are probably the best options, usually something that weight has to go to a business address. |

Reider Racing now offers a mini spool for the 14 bolt. Starting at $179.95. I'm planning on using one in the eaton for my mud truck. Jason |

The swaps been discussed here for years... lockers in 14ff to eatons - vice-versa......lots of threads on it in pirate4x4 site also.

I am just in awe of the general population here wanting origonal parts, and paying SOOOO much for them. i.e. who wants to pay $300 for a set of tow hooks when you can buy the same thing from walmart for $20 a set? $60 and up for a stock set of rear seat brackets.... Heh, who wants to pay $9,999 for a no spin, when you can buy the entire axle with it equpeed with one for less than $4,999 (read that as half the cost(or less) of the no spin), or for the same $9999 buy the 14B one. I dunno, I guess I am just spoiled by the fact that the people I get my parts from think I am doing them a favor by getting the "junk" off of their property.
Shelby: If you were closer, I would trade you straight across my 4.10 for your 4.57 and help you find the upgrades like I mentioned, prolly would be around $400 for the parts to a bullet resistant turnkey axle. |
