Moving from CA to WI
Well getting ready to move from California to Wisconsin. Would like to bring my truck with me. The truck has rust on the drip rails and the cab corners other than that it is in fair shape. How can i get this thing there. I will be renting a u-haul probably the big one. Any advise is appreciated. Thanks

Re: Moving from CA to WI
I moved from Colorado to California about 6 months ago and hauled my truck behind a U-Haul truck (the big one) using a U-Haul trailer. It worked out fine. My truck is a short wheel base. I'm not sure if a long wheel base will fit on one of those trailers.

You can also check into an auto carrier service. They are cheaper than you might think and a good safe way to go.

First... don't use U-haul...ask around, you'll find like 3 or 4 ppl happy with there junk, and everyone else will hate them.
When i moved from Texas to Ohio, I used a tow bar on my old 69 SWB hooked to a 25 foot penske rental truck. |

Re: Moving from CA to WI
The U-Haul tow dolleys are too narrow for our trucks. I ended up buy a dolley when I picked up my son's 68 stepside in San Antonio. I spent about $700 to get my 70 flatbed from Santa Barbara to Tulsa a couple years ago.

Re: Moving from CA to WI
I was just in WI two weeks ago. We have some WI visitors this week too...seem to be doing alot of buisiness there this winter. Lake Geneva is nice...I spent a week there once upon a time. Where are you going to end up?

I will end up in Oak Creek. Time to get back to the motherland. How well does those attach to the bumper deals work?

Re: Moving from CA to WI
I work at my dads GM dealership and i do some of the used car buying....just got a quote for one truck shipped from North Carolina to Minneapolis and that was 975. Manheim auctions have a quick calculator for dealers to figure transportation, if you tell me the cities, or closest major ones. I'd been more than happy to punch em in and get you an approx transportation cost. Otherwise i have a big list of auto transport companies that other dealers have had good experience with if you need some phone numbers.

Re: Moving from CA to WI
I grew up in Wisconsin..My question is WHY?? Seriously, I pulled a 57 chevy from SA, TX to Omaha one time with a tow bar..NIGHTMARE! The money to put it on a tow dolly or a total trailer would be well spent.

Re: Moving from CA to WI
Well have a better job opportunity and california is just way to expensive, everything is going up but the pay time to get out while the real estate market is fairly good. Would be intersted in that list of haulers Chrome8 e-mail to iliketv@yahoo.com. I will also be bringing 2 other vehicles with so i think transport services are the best bet. Don't really want to have to have the wife towing a vehicle if i don't have to.
