Question on new carpet and gas pedal...............
 

I installed an ACC carpet today and I must say it fit awesome!

The carpet has an underlay glued to the backside of it which is nice also. But now my problem. What do I do about the gas pedal and the little balls that are on the floor? I know for a fact that the balls will not stick through the underlay and the carpet if I were to cut it. Is there another pedal that I can use? Or maybe a pedal system out of a newer truck?

What did you guys use? Any pics?

I THINK you cut a slit in the carpet, and put that flap part of the pedal under the carpet. But I don't have carpet so .............

ive got a cab with those and ive never looked so i dont really know, but can you unbolt them? if you can try unbolting them and cut slits in the carpet and bolt them down on top of it

Its been a while since I did mine, but I "grafted" the bottom part of a (I think) '72 gas pedal to the upper portion of the 69 style. From what I remember, The newer" style 72 pedal has a different bolt pattern on the firewall. I cut both rods on a 45* angle and welded it back together. After I filed it , you cant tell anything was ever done to it. Now the pedal is supported by the rod, not the ball on the floor. It was done over 4 yrs ago, and is still working great!

I have a 70' also. I recently added new carpet and I had to cut a "Rectangle" the same size as the base of the pedal in the carpet. It worked perfect with no problems at all. Start by cutting the rectangle small and expand it as necessary to get pedal pressed down on the 2 little balls. Good luck!

And cutting the insulation around the balls will halp a little too.

If I understand your problem correctly---what to do with the pedal mounting on the floor via cutting carpet----why not simply upgrade to a 72 type pedal asm with a cable which mounts up higher on the firewall thereby eliminating any carpet cutting entirely. You will need the carb linkage mount that goes on the intake, cable, firewall pedal mount as well but you could probably pick up the hole thing for a few dollars from a junk 72!? Then you could remove the old style pedal mounting balls and off you go~~~. Or, don't I understand something here~~~~? Huck ;)

Thats exactly it! I didn't really want to cut a hole in my carpet, so that is why I was wondering what options were out there.

Guess I'll be running without a pedal for a bit, until I find something. :)

The raised area with the 2 silver dots is where the gas pedle bolts up. Cut out your insulation where it does not cover that rased area, then you can cut a small rectangle in your carpet just big enough to slip over the ball-bolts that the pedle snaps to. It should not give you any interferiance. The pedel also has a flap around it that will cover anything up.
