Can anyone tell me where I locate casting numbers for chevy manual trans?

I've got an old Chevy 3 speed manual trans that I'd like to id it's original application. The numbers on it are - GM1 3858986 A107

If anyone could provide some info on where I might be able to research this I would appreciate it.
