You Think Hooks Are High?Buddy Seats

Hopefully I`ll find a junk truck that I can take the buddy buckets out of,then sell the rest. That`s the only way I`ll end up with those seats in the`67 GMC Stepside I`m going to build.Figure, you pay $400 for something that needs foam and reupholstery. If you find it locally, you don`t need to add all the shipping on such a large item.I figure you`re going to have $1,200-1,500 into them by the time you pay the stitcher.I like them, but not that much.Mine`ll be a custom,so I`m having utility buckets roll`n`pleated unless I find that golden junker.

I know where some are at I was told I could have but they are missing the center section. they're from a 67. They need everything. the missing middle is why I haven't got them yet.

 I HAD A SET IN A 68 A FEW YEARS BACK. THEY WERE IN GREAT SHAPE & HAD NEVER BEEN RECOVERED. THEY LOOKED GREAT BUT WERE THE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS I'VE EVER SAT IN. I BROKE MY BACK ABOUT 30 YEARS AGO, & HAVE TO HAVE COMFORTABLE BUCKETS. I CAN ONLY SET IN BENCH SEATS FOR ABOUT 45 MIN. & THOSE BUDDY BUCKETS WERE ALOT WORSE THAN ANY BENCH SEAT I'VE EVER SAT IN. I PULLED EM OUT & SOLD EM CHEAP TO A BUDDY OF MINE .:hm: JOHN

A set sold at our local swap meet this weekend for $275. The frame was rusty, the drivers seat foam was so bad the actual seat frame was visable(alot), the center seat uphosltry was shot, the passenger seat needed some foam, and the back of cab brace was missing. Only good thing was no shipping.

Foam is about 200 per seat, kit upholstry is 250+, time to redo the frame and center box(several hours), missing brace(I think maybe Wes has this repopped by now) 25.00. Total $750 with no installation and questionable comfort per JYJ.

Bench seats look better all the time.

Bad math on my part - I only used one foam price. New total $950 without installation or time.

;) There Are Alot Of Comfortable Seats In Late Model Cars That Look Great In Our Old Trucks. Some Are Even Electric & Have Lumbar Supports. I've Got Jeep Gran Cherokee Seats In My 69 Towtruck, Toyota Seats In My 82, & A Set Out Of A Mazda For My 71. They Look Great, Are Reapolstered, Are Very Very Comfortable. & Cost Me Less Than $300 A Pair Complete.
Go To A Junkyard & Set In A Bunch Of Different Wrecked Cars With Buckets, Till You Find Some That Feel & Look Good.
Even The Stock Buckets In My 71 Blazer Were Not Very Comfortable. I'm Getting To Be An Old Guy & I Need Comfortable Seats. ;) John
(HINT SET IN A EARLY 80s JEEP GRAN CHEROKEE)

I have a friend that has a set fo Buddy bucket seats that were redone I believe in Grey and the frame was powdercoated black. I believe he was asking 800.00 for the set.

I'd make new frames and go from there if I had one for reference.

Thanks JYJ,I`ll try to find someone with back problems to give me a set.
I have some`92 GMC low-backs & console I may recover for it.Those utility buckets are pretty flat.I could have them custom formed & covered for what cherried-out buddie buckets cost.I`m not knockin`buddy buckets, just making conversation on the cost of some options and the praticality of some.If I was doing a correct resto on a 67/68 that had them and were removed, that would be a bullet I`d have to bite.Something like that wouldn`t get alot of road time anyway. But,at this point, that ain`t me.I like stuff I`m not afraid to use.

I have these. They are rough. The frame is in decent shape. The middle seat box is pretty rusty and they need all the foam replaced. I think I paid what they are worth for them. They were the only thing worth saving from the whole truck. I can't decide to sell or fix.

I was talking to a guy at the pleasanton goodguys show last year who had the buddy buckets and he also said they were really uncomfortable. That's the only reason I didn't buy a set. Still love the look of them though.

I have them in my truck. I bought them already redone for $600
Just my 2 c but I really like them, the look and the feel. My son also has them in his truck and could care less, he'd rather have something later model (seat wise) His need re done. could be why there not as comfortable as mine.

I have them in my daily driver and I love them. Raised the front mount 2 " for more of a reclined fit. ( and more leg room:lol:)

I have a set in my daily driver too. I cant say how comfy the stock foam was, I ripped it out and put in a new foam kit. Super comfy!

You are right, they are costly. I just priced a set for a board member at about $1,000 including all the shipping. Seats, one foam set, covers and shipping...
But, so many people really like them better than anything else. I have never had a set that didn't sell easy.
...aren't those new foams nice?
There are better places to spend your money on a truck...or maybe not. They are pretty cool.

Re: You Think Hooks Are High?Buddy Seats

Yeah, they are really expensive. I have about $1000 USD into mine, and there not even done yet. I still have to take them to an upholestry shop to be finished. But it'll be worth it once they're done and in my truck
