New process tranny.
What kind of transmission is a New Process A833, are they more like a car tranny or a truck tranny? I'm halfway looking for an OD 4th gear and a somewhat low 1st gear, and this is what I found. Anybody here know anything about them??

Re: New process tranny.
Here is a quick blurb of what I found about it.
New Process A833 4-speed transmission, with all forward speeds synchronized. Manufactured in both direct drive and overdrive models. 10 Bolt shift cover mounted on left side of transmission case. Early models had iron cases and late model cases are aluminum. Case length measures 10 5/8 . Used in Chrysler passenger cars 1964-80, Dodge trucks 1976-85, and 1981-86 General Motors trucks. GM models may be identified as RPO code MY6 Produced in 2 and 4 wheel drive versions |

Hmmm. So it probably has a pretty high-geared 1st gear then.

Re: New process tranny.
here is a link to a thread I started a while ago regarding these transmissions. It also has a couple of good documents attached regarding the install of this transmission. I am currently trying to find a way to put this transmission into my 4x4......the trick part sounds like its going to be getting the right transfer case, as the 4x4 version seems to have a 32 spline output shaft.....same as the th400, so if you want to run one, you will need a transfer case from an 80's k30. (if you don't want to run a 203)
Hopefully, as soon as I find said transfer case, i can begin my install.....I will post a how to write up once its all done. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=186746 |
Re: New process tranny.
first gear is 3.09.....a stock 3 speed is 2.94 or 2.95.....and the sm465's are 6.32???

Re: New process tranny.
Well this sucks. I thought there was a 4speed with OD and a low 1st gear out there for trucks. Thanks guys.

Re: New process tranny.
A 4 spd manual with a creeper and an OD would be a nightmare to drive.....basic city driving would never touch the creeper, so you would have a start off gear for baisc driving/acceleration and a direct drive 3rd.....only way to get the creeper and the od is with the nv4500 as far as I know.......unless of course you went the aux. overdrive setup. VTblazer has some pics that detail the install of that into one of his blazers......looks awesome!

Re: New process tranny.
I have an article that I scanned a while back that talks about this tranny swap. I don't think it is small enough to post. If you want a copy email me and I will send it to you. There are 4 pages and they range from 135K to 156K. I have tried to reduce the resolution and the type gets pretty unreadable.
