Paint Job Advice
Hey all - I have an 84 shortbed that I've had for about 10 years. It is a metallic brown over tan 2-tone. I really like the look of some of the trucks I see here that are a solid color without the stuck-on trim.
My question is, if I go with a solid color, would it be easier/cheaper to not do a complete color change? The metallic brown is fairly attractive when it's all waxed up, but after about a month, it gets very hazy and filmy, which I suspect is just because of the age of the truck. The reason I'm leaning toward going with this color is because the dash and inside of the doors is also this color, and I'm trying to avoid having to strip the truck down to get it painted. Thanks. |

Yes, it is much easier not to do a color change. It is also a lot cheaper, as changing the color correctly is VERY labor intensive.

Unless you want to pay more for a whole paint job where they strip it down..just stick close to the factory color. That old paint is why your fighting the haze. Its just not a great paint. The new single stage paints are great and will shine great too. :)

Depending On You Budget Color Change Is Not To Difficultif Your Willing To Do Some Basic Prep Work, You Can Save Some Money
I Changed To A Slightly Diffrent Shade. I Did All The Prep, Removed All The Trim, Emblems, And Drip Rails. The Painter Painted All The Jams For Only $150 Extra. The Whole Thing Cost Abought $2000. If You Are Going To Paint The Truck You Shoul Get The Color You Want, Not What Is Easiest. |

Re: Paint Job Advice
I thought I wanted the trim on my truck after I got it painted. I decided the day before I dropped it off that I didn't want the plastic trim. They filled all the wholes and I'm glad they did.
