Quiet muffler recommendation.
I know this subject will bring alot of different opinions but I just thought I would give it whirll!
I am ready to put in my exhaust system, after a full engine build up. I am going with a 2 1/2" dual exhaust with long tube headers. I am running the exhaust through the body infront of the rear tires. I am really concerned about the noise because the outlet of the exhaust. I want something that has a nice tone but not loud or alot of resonance. I had flowmaster 40s previously and they are way too loud. I am debating between the flowmaster delta 50's or possibly the new Magnaflow 3-chamber XL Turbo muffler. Anybody have a good suggestion. I still need it to flow well, I will be pushing over 400HP. |
Re: Quiet muffler recommendation.
delta series are a good quiet, yet decent flowing mufflers, hadnt had any experience with the xl turbos.

Re: Quiet muffler recommendation.
Couple things here, one is to use an X-pipe or and H-pipe, these do help keeping the noise down, the other might be using the new HushPower 2 mufflers by flowmaster, they have a nice compact design and according to their sight, they have less interior resonance, I ran the big block 70 series on my small block last year and they where pretty tame cruising and you deffinately new it when you got into it, they also had a nice idle tone, but with thte cam in mine it's pretty hard not to get noticed.

Re: Quiet muffler recommendation.
Magnaflow has a great tone without being harsh. The larger the muffler, the quieter they are. I have 3" exhaust, which is hard to make reasonably quiet. I went with Magnaflows biggest 3" muffler. It's stainless steel and they are made for motor homes. They really are big though.

Re: Quiet muffler recommendation.
i've always used plain old generic "turbo" mufflers @ about $20 each worked good for me

Re: Quiet muffler recommendation.
My favorite sound so far was my chevelle with dynomax super turbos on a 350. 2.5" tubes with an H pipe and shorty dynomax headers. Very even with a low raspy tone that I could drive through town at night.

Re: Quiet muffler recommendation.
I have some fully welded Dynamax mufflers can't remember there exact name they were the $50 each ones they are quiet. Summits house brand $20 and fully welded $45 ea (on my 63 bel-air) are quiet too. As long as they are running all the way out back I think you're ok. Mufflers then dumped at the rear axle will never be quiet.

Re: Quiet muffler recommendation.
I like the Dynomax Super Turbo's they have a nice mellow sound to them.
