"BLAZIN" is off to Barrett-Jackson

1 Attachment(s)
Well everyone, it's with mixed feelings that I have consigned my truck with Barrett-Jackson West Palm Beach. The truck will sell on Thursday March 30. It's lot No. 82.1

Here's link to the listing:

Thanks again for everyone's input and help in this restoration.

Longhair and Bouncytruck helped with a great photoshop'd image that I used in the listing. Here's their work:
Greg.

I never got around to seeing it when it was in Converse for upholstery. It sure looks like it was/is nice. Good luck.

Thanks for nice comments guys. I think I'm going to tackle my '69 Ram Air III Trans Am next. I thought about selling it, but it's such a solid car, I don't thing I'd ever have a chance to find this rare a car in this good of shape. It's 2/3rds the way to concourse, but as you know that last third is the toughest.

Here's a link to it:

Still looking for an interesting truck however, maybe a 1st gen blazer.

Maybe someone here *cough* Ken *cough* might be interested in something different from what he has already and grab this for a great truck. that's a sweet truck with great details.

How did ya'll fab the firewall box for the heater/ac?

Did you have that on ebay recently?. That's sharp!

Re: "BLAZIN" is off to Barrett-Jackson

Brandon, the heater blank is a pre-fabricated plate that is manufactured by Vintage Air, and is supplied with their 'Sure Fit' Underdash A/C unit that replaces the core in the firewall. I'm sure they would sell you the blank by itself if you give them a call. Be sure and mention my truck, and ask for Mark Hungerback mark@vintageair.com to get that part.

Who is 'Ken' that you are referring to? I'm not that familiar with first names on the boards.

Jim, this truck has never been on Ebay, unless someone scammed by pics and ran a listing. You never know with Ebay anymore. It was listed on Collectorcartrader.com however, before I decided to consign with B-J.

Hey Greg -- Question for you!

What did you use to strip the sheet metal on your truck so nicely?

If done chemically, what did you use, and how did you go about neutralizing the chemical later so it didn't strip the new primers?

Re: "BLAZIN" is off to Barrett-Jackson

Russell, sorry it took a while to answer your question. As you might know I've been 'thrashing' getting everything just so for B-J. The truck left yesterday for West Palm Beach, and she sells Thursday night, and hopefully will make TV coverage on Speed.

The stripper is a marine paint stripper in a blue can. I cannot remember the name exactly, but it cleans and dilutes with water. It can be found in most automotive paint stores. Coverage only took one to two coats of paint off at a time, meaning that it took sometimes 2 to 3 passes to get to metal. Then can finish it off with a light wire brush.

Of course, I also followed that with metal cleaner and metal conditioner prior to priming. Then sealed the bare metal with metal etching primer prior to covering with high build primer.

Sorry I couldn't remeber the brand name, but if you ask for marine paint remover in a blue gallon can, if someone on the boards can't follow up with a brand, I'm sure the paint shops can.
Greg.

Cool, thanks for the info. I gotta strip my truck's box down to the bare metal. The paint on it is some cheap single stage stuff that is peeling pretty badly.
