timing what do you set at?
I just instaled a edelbrock cam in my 350 with hei. Edelbrock reccomens timing at 14 degrees, is this mandatory?

Hotter cams like more initial timing. I saw an article on duration & initial timing(think it was in comp cams site). best to listen to what the eng wants,& go from there. On my 383,I run 16 initial/34 total, all in @ 2700,& 10 degrees on the vacumn can/plugged to full manifold fitting on the carb. I also have alumnium heads, loose converter,& 4.10 gears,so the eng never sees a heavy load in the lower rpm ranges. My comp XE268 is 224 intake/230 ex duration @ .050.........69 longhorn.

Yeah,,,bump the timing up a little at a time until it pings while your driving then back off till it doesn't and your in.
