Some Update pics of my project....

3 Attachment(s)
Well I've had the truck for about 3 months and so far here's what I have done:

Lowered 4" 6"
Was a long bed, now Short!
A few engine goodies
15X8 Rallys
Dynamat
Next step....Frame off to be powder coated, Full air ride, with notched crossmember, full body work and paint(in progress), new interior(in the mail), crate 350/330 hp, new tranny with OD, and a bunch more, it's only money right!

first pic was taken in early december before I picked up the truck, it was a freebie from a friend.

Looks cool! Maybe someday mine will get there...

Do you have any good shots of your engine compartment (before?)

Looking for reference for my '74.

Thanks!

I think I may have pics of my engine compartment before I "fixed" it but they are on my work computer, I'll check tomorrow and post if I have them, I think the ones I have are of the motor semi apart? I'll just post whatever I find.

Looks awesome! Is the bed stock sheetmetal or did you put it together from aftermarket pieces?

Thats a good lookin project you have there.

The "It's only money" comment helps alot when the truck was a freebie.

When your done you will probably have an all most new everything truck and still have not spent what you would of on a New truck and you will have something thats way kooler than any thing that is new out there. Well Except a SSR.

Yes I did, but turns out I came across another free truck, but this one is a truc short bed, so what i'm going to do is get it, part everything else out but the rolling chassis, install me c-notches, chopped crossmember, and what ever else I need to do and then have it all powder coated, set the new crate motor and trans in that then swap my body over to that one, seems like a lot but I think this is the best way since I'm getting another frame!

I know, I know all the wasted work cutting the other one, no biggie I'll just sell it to someone else or something?

i was just wondering if you have used dynamat before this truck.also is it good for keeping the heat away from the floor.i know it is used for sound deadening.always looking for a better way of doing things.how is it if it gets wet?

Yes I have used this before in my honda accord, I had a system in it that rattled like crazy! It helped for sure. I think this is one of the best improvements you can make, they make several different types of dynamat and this one has the foil backing which does also help in heat department, I think it's great stuff. I have never got it wet before but I think it would be fine, it's real sticky so onece it's down I don't think water would get under it. I do recomend buying a roller to put it down, I've used my thumbs before and that was the worst thing I've ever done.

Sounds like a good plan.

So, do you have the measurements of the frame dimensions you whacked off??? Do you have any pictures or anything of the chopping session? I'm kinda maybe wanting to do this on something I just bought, a '79 Crewcab??? Thanks
Brandon

I've got a 235-70-15 up front and 275-60-15 out back, looks perfect!

Yeah I got all the dimentions from this site and other, basically you take 14" off right behind the cab, and 5" off the back.

I cut mine at a 45 and plated the back, I'll post some pics up. I double checked the 14" by measuring the two front bed bolts on the long bed, and short bed, it was 14" exactly.

The only other things to change are fuel tank from a 20 gal to a 16 and you have to redrill 2 holes for that, no biggie.

I got a driveline and a hard brake line from a donor shorted, and the last thing is e brake cables. It's easy to do, the thing that takes by far the longest is measuring the squareness of the frame 100 times before you weld it. Sorry for the vague instructions but when it comes down to it, email me and I'll try and help if you have questions.
