Tranny Swap Questions
I have a 1980 C10 with a factory 4 speed manual trans, I am considering a richmond five speed manual trans. Has anyone done this and is it difficult? Is it a bolt in swap? Everyone tells me to swap for an automatic, but thats just not me, gotta grab gears.....thanks in advance

I have a Doug Nash 4+1 (same as Richmond) going into my '73 truck. You WILL have to move the crossmember back and drill new holes and a shorter driveshaft, but as for the rest, everything bolts up. I went from a Passenger car Rockcrusher M22 though. I think the SM465 is longer, but can remember exactly.

I had an original 4 spd in my '83 went to a TH350 then to a 700R4 and I now have the Tremec TKO II 600 5 spd. Everything should bolt up with no problems except what Captkaos noted (cross member and driveshaft). Of course you will need new clutch and pressure plate. Not sure about the bellhousing though. But you can get any small block chevy bellhousing, mine is out of a '67 Chevelle. The yoke is probably different on the driveshaft as well. Might be a good idea to just have a new driveshaft made.
I agree grabbing gears is so much more fun. |
