Removing front end
I'm getting ready to clean and rebuild the front and rear portions of the chassis on my 67. How many and where are all the bolts to take the whole front end off in one piece? I have the cowl, one bolt through the inner fender into a bracket on the cab and the two bolts at the radiator core support removed. The back end doesn't even budge yet. Do I have to remove the inner fenders? Are there more bolts behind them holding the fenders to the cab?
Also, once I get the front clip off, I think I can handle dis-assembly of the front end (steering and suspension), should I remove the brake lines and fuel lines to clean and paint the inside of the frame, or should I just spray right over them? My plans are to rebuild the entire front and rear suspension, add power steering, and add a disc brake kit and 4/6 drop from ECE. If you guys/gals have any comments or suggestions, please let me know. Thanks |
Re: Removing front end
I found I used to take things off my truck and place them either on the floor or on my bench in the order they can off so they would go back on in the same order.
Then I spent $50 on the assembly manuel that shows every nut and bolt washer etc and it was worth it. It gives you a refrence guide when you are tearing pieces apart and gives you a guide to put it back together after it has taken weeks and sometimes longer to get the work done. |

Underneath the cowl at the back of the fender at the top they are held on with 2 bolts. There are also two bolts at the back of the fender on the bottom of the fender. That's all I can think of at the moment that you may have missed.

Re: Removing front end
Thanks, I know I got the two at the top and one of the bolts on the bottom, I'll have to look for another further back on the bottom. It still seems like it ain't budging though.

Re: Removing front end
I'd advise removing the fuel lines and replacing them. I found lots of dry rot on the rubber parts when I did it 2 months ago.
