Average cost of a 305
 

I have a guy who has a 305 #14094766. It has every thing from quad to pan. I was just wondering what one of these goes for and if he is asking too much. Also is there any differences that would cause problems when i go to stick it in my 72 swb 2wd with a t350 with short pump and driver side alt.

Shouldn't be any issues, should bolt up directly to the tranny, you might need to replace the tranny lines and move around the motor mounts, does the motor have the long waterpump? Might be some issues with that. What does everyone else think.

If the 305 doesn't have a starter on it, then use the starter and flywheel off your old engine. Remove your water pump and accesory brackets off the old motor, and put them on the 305. It will all bolt up with no problem.... onless you have A/C...then you won't be able to get to your dipstick. motor mounts will remain in the same location... use the old ones off your old motor.
A complete 305, low mileage, completely dressed with low miles and/or garunteed to be a strong running high oil pressure no death noises, completely dresses from carb to pan (this does not include later injected motors) IMO would be worth about MAYBE 300 bucks at the very most. If you are talking more of a mystery motor laying on the shop floor that no one has seen run in years.... honestly, there isn't a place in the US that you could be and not find that for free within 100 miles of you.... and I'll say 20 miles if you are in a populated area.

Thanks guys I figured i should just wait for the 350 i want to come around. I am just starting the tear down so got nothing but time.

The 305 is a decent motor as far as dependability, they are just lacking in the performance area. you could get an inline and possably get the same power.

Tell me about it, I had an 86 camaro with the 305/700R4... and what a dog! I can't believe chevrolet had the nerve to put the Z-28 badge on it. And the camaros are lighter, more aerodynamic than a truck if that puts things in perspective:)

Hey Stynchrr,

The question you have to answer is what are you looking for in an engine? If you want performance, a 350 is the quickest way to get it. If you want reliability and the possibility of better gas mileage then a 305 wouldn't be a bad choice.

Also, I got a question about your avitar. Is that a PSU symbol on a Delaware plate?

I am an PA native that went to PSU now living in delaware working for the DOT. I figured it brought it all together.
