polished rims vs chrome rims

Ok...here's a follow up to the step lip vs rolled lip thread.

Advantages and disadvantages of both.

Fading, hazing, easy to clean, etc etc.

Thanks,
Jay

you can always bring polished alloy rims back to life and you save on unsprung weight// chromed steel wheels besides the weight disadvantage rust and peel and die an ugly death

Steel isn't the only wheel material that can be chromed.

If you drive it daily & can get the wheels in chrome, that would be my choice. Unfortunately not all wheel selections come w/a chrome option.

My next set will be chrome. I'm tired of Nevr-dull and sore elbows :(

Speaking of chrome wheels... somebody please try and talk me out of a set of these for the Wallet Eater. There's something very appealing about these, but I dunno... too simple? too something?

I looked into getting mine chromed when I got them but they were having issues w/the plating flaking off & wouldn't do it. I guess they figured out what the issue was.

Re: polished rims vs chrome rims

I have had many sets of billet wheels, as well as chrome wheels. Here are my observations-

Billet-
Pro's
Look awesome when new.
Available in any backspace.
Available in any width.
Minor curb rash can be repaired at home.
Major curb rash can be repaired economically.

Con's
After you get them mounted, they have to be polished.
If a dog pees on them, they have to be polished.
If you splash water on them while hot, they have to be polished.
If the sprinkler system sprays them all night, they have to be polished.
If you go to a car show, they have to be polished.
If you keep them in a climate controlled garage, they have to be polished.
Unless they are stored in a hermetically sealed bag, they have to be polished.

Chrome-
Pro's
Look awesome when new.
After you get them mounted, they clean up with Windex.
If a dog pees on them, they clean up with Windex.
If you splash water on them while hot, they clean up with Windex.
If the sprinkler system sprays them all night, they clean up with Windex.
If you go to a car show, they clean up with Windex.

Cons-
Available in limited backspace.
Available in limited width.
Minor curb rash can be repaired but it's expensive.
Major curb rash can be repaired by replacing the wheel.

Ok, I'll try. Those are the most boring wheels I have ever seen in my life. I almost fell asleep typing this. Hows that....

Dont like those wheels, Like N2TRUX said Boring!!! Try powder coating those other wheels then you dont have to polish them any more and use a flat color.

I would, but I might hurt your feelings....;) Sorry for the brutal honesty. Your going to have a bad ass truck when it gets finished. Your choice of wheels will have a huge impact on just how bad ass it really is. It's just my opinion, but those wheels do not add anything to the trucks personality.

I hear you. I'd actually like them on the DD, but I already spent a few gajillion on the Boze Bentons for it. What appeals to me about the Centerline is that it is an _extreme_ smoothie of sorts... which is a good description of my truck (shaved, shaved, and more shaved). Not that your opinion actually matters :blah: ;) , but I think it's just the right amount of push to steer me back toward the TTII's... and I'll pay extra for chrome (I prefer Windex to Nevrdull).

BUT IF THEY DID, I rather spend a day polishing instead of doing nothing at all. And also I'm the kind of guy that likes to see the outcome of a good polish.
I polish my wheels w/ the same stuff Boyd uses, Heavy Metal Polish.
This stuffs the best, and it works a hell of alot better than some punka$$ powerball.
And yes, I also agree w/ N2TRUX, it's all about what your going for. You don't' want a wheel that would overpower the look of vehicle Like some of you I've seen w' these clutter chrome duece dueces, some of which look great, and others where it just look rediculous. So to calm it down, go w/ billet, it's not too eye popping, but what I think it shows, is that you have class, and that's what counts.
