Suburban Bumper Guards ?

I have a '91 1/2T 4x4 'Burb with the black center wrap or trim piece mounted to the front bumper. It has some sort of short black bumper guards that seem made of the same poly/plastic/vinyl ? I have seen other 'Burbs of that age with the taller chrome guards with the rubber strip in the center. Is one style an option over the other? I like the taller style, just seems to look better in my opinion. Anyone have an idea where I can get a decent pair. Have looked at several 'Burbs in local yards with no luck. How differ in the mounting and if I find a pair at a swap meet, anyone have a pic of the contour so I will know they fit correctly.

take a look at lmctruck.com (and get a catalog from them)... a great source to see what came on different years even if you don't buy from them...

mine has this style (my burb)

heres the other style you're talking about i believe:

If I remember correctly, the ogre jaw type (the large chrome with rubber in center, 2nd pic) was last seen on the 89-90 burbs and most 90-91s that I have seen all have had the trim only or trim plus block guards (1st pic).

Looking at LMC now, says for the chrome type will work for 81-89 and rubber type for 90-91.... but as they use the same mounts and bumpers have the holes already, I would assume that either could be used. The small type only uses a single bolt through the bumper and the chrome type uses 2 per guard.

Thanks for the info on the bumper guards. The taller pair on the tan 'Burb is the ones I am looking for. Must be a pair in a local yard somewhere. Do you know, does the black bumper strip need to be cut or do the taller 'guards mount over the strip to the bumper? Perhaps the center strip is divided to accept the 'guards? Will look a bit further.

btw, my '89 doesn't have the "verticle" bumper guards... just the bumper and the black molding stuff...

Ironhorse, yes the strip will need cut.The chrome ones are pre-88.The short black ones,88-up to match the new style trucks. You may be able to get the guards from the dealer still. They will either have notched bumper guards for w/moulding or moulding for w/bumper guards.

Iron Horse,
I have ordered a push bar for the tan burb. I believe that I will have to remove the vertical bumper guards to install.

Would be happy to send them to you for what every it cost to ship.

Will let you know.

Hobbs

Hobbs, Thanks much for the offer. Would be very interested in the bumper guards. Keep me in mind and let me know when you install your push bar. I just think the taller guards look better than the shorter style. :)

I prefer the larger types myself as well, they looked good on my 76 GMC truck...
