tires

whats the widest tire you can put on a 15x8 rally rim? I am looking for better dry and wet weather traction for a 79 2wd lwb. Any suggestions on tire choice? I currently have an old set of wranglers (20 years old) on the rear. Also what is the stock tire height on these trucks?

Re: tires

stock tires on the 15 inch wheels are 235/75/15

There was a thread about this about 2 weeks ago....

.... I think the general thought was 275 ish.

I have 255/70/15 on my 15x8 rallys, PM for a pic if you'd like a couple.

Re: tires

ok thanks. pm sent. Looks like 255/70/15 is the widest i can go, keeping stock tire height. 275/60/15 drop the tire height by an inch and a 265/70/15 will raise it by an inch

Re: tires

Wider tires are better for dry but not wet traction. A good size for 15x8 is 255-70-15

You can always go on BFgoodrich website and check the specs for the type of tire you want and it will list the recommended rim sizes for all the tire sizes.

I have 33 12.50's BFG mud terrains on my 15x8 rallys. I use them for the winter only, but for quite a few years before I got al. wheels I ran them continuously, not a single problem. Tires wore perfectly, didnt burn the centers or outsides.

Good luck.

I have run 275/60/15 Yokohama Avid S/T's on 15x8 rallys they look good wear good and are way cheaper than most others the same size. Dry traction was excellent and I had no problems with them in the rain as I did with my previous tires. I used to get stuck on concrete steets in the rain on hills untill they dried off a spot then would go.
