fuel tank ?
what holds the filler neck in the tank? are they soddered?has any one used a 40 gal suburban tank? i just removed one from my 87 sub today and want to use it in my short box.it's gonna be tight but if i can rotate the filler neck and remove and replace the rear frame crossmember i think i can make it fit. anyone ever done this? to do it it looks like the tank will have to be rotated 90 degrees and the filler neck rotated in the tank.it will have to go back nearly to the back of the box, alittle past the end of the frame. it looks like no bed supports will have to be cut.it should hang about 7' below the frameand i plan to use a reciever hitch and a blazer skid plate for protection. what do you think?

Re: fuel tank ?
I have pics of exactly what you're talking about on a truck build post I've made, but the board seems to be having problems right now and the links won't work.
Search 'all posts by Brad' under my name and look for the post 'I took my truck in to get cut up'. Look at the very last page and it should have the info you're looking for. |
Re: fuel tank ?
I'd be a little nervous about sticking out past the frame. And filling a 40gal tank almost requires credit approval. LOL. I like the added range. I'm planning on doing a 21 gal blazer tank and keeping my behind the seat tank. Good luck and take pics for us to see.

Re: fuel tank ?
Someone several years ago put one in a LWB 4x4, but I also remember they had to dent in the tank to make sure it cleared the differental housing.

Re: fuel tank ?
for what it's worth $700c10 is getting ready to install an RCI fuel cell. that is if it will fit. anyone done this?

Re: fuel tank ?
I have a fuel cell in mine. Not sure if it is RCI or not. PO installed this and ran the filler neck out to the side of the bed behind the rear tire. Used a 95-96 Mustang filler door. I personally hate this, but will not address it until everything comes off. I have no pics at this point of any of it or I would post up.

Re: fuel tank ?
anyone know if the filler spout going in the tank is soddered or just crimped in the tank? it will have to be rotated 90 degrees as will the tank to clear bed crossmembers

Re: fuel tank ?
The filler spout is brazed on. I had mine rotated 90* and you can see it in my post. It cost me $40 to have it turned, but that's only because it hadn't been used in years and had absolutely no gas in it. Otherwise they'd have to boil it out and then do it and charge me more which might have made it pointless.
