Sun Faded Seat Belts... Can they be Dyed??

I found some decent working black seatbelts today. They are Black.. mostly. The shoulder straps are sun faded. Can they be re-dyed? Can you restrap them???

Found some info here about Dyeing automotive seat belts Also came across a few posts where guys have boiled their belts in RIT Dye from a super market and it works well they say.

Are Original belts Nylon or Polyester?

You need to look at getting the dye to work. Having them rewebbed is expensive. Your looking at 350.00+ to do a set.

I tried dying some burgandy ones to black and it was a total waste of time. All it managed to do was rust every piece of metal on them. They were trash after this. I bought some news ones and they didn't work right with our trucks. Finally got lucky and bought a very nice set of original black ones on ebay for $75.00. I say bought. More like stole them.

I'm not sure how well dying the belts will come out, especially long term.

Since OEM black belts are kinda hard to find (and buy $$$), if dying doesn't work out, you may want to check out Juliano's. They go for 'bout $90 each. They're not OEM, but they may work. I think another board member was gonna check them out.

I restored the belts in my '84 last year.
Ordered the correct OEM webbing from Ssnake-oyl Products in Texas and had my local upholstery guy sew them up. Total cost was $135.00 and they look great.
