Sorry, I don't have an answer, but I'd love to hear from one of the members who have done this successfully.

Are you wanting to use an original tach dash, or add a tach to your existing dash?

I put an Autometer tach in the center hole of my existing non tach dash, had to make a spacer due to the printed circuit board on the back of the dash panel, do some cutting and grinding, wasn't too hard to do.

If going factory style, you need a phillips screwdriver and a 5/16 wrench and the correct harness to hook up to the coil.

This is the easiest swap out there going, just unbolt a few screws, unscrew you oil pressure line, and speedo from the back of the speedometer and out comes the console, then just a few screws, to unbolt the bezel and backing plate, switch out backing plates, install the tach, finish with replacing the bolts and there you have it,
that easy

Here is mine with an aftermarket tach and clock. I'm finishing up another one with a Camaro tach and clock soon. Check the FAQ forum for directions that others have posted.

Yes the fact tach will work with HEI, and the fact wiring harness will work as well. Just need to cut off the fork lug and replace it with a insulated female spade lug and hook it up to the spot marked tach on the HEI dizzy and your in business. Randy

You are correct about the HEI dizzy working, and you and others are correct for the swap if the origional is a full gauge dash. If your origional has just the idiot lights, you need to change the wiring.

GMC Paul's web-site has a tech tip, part-way down the page on how to do it.

http://www.gmcpauls.com/Tech%20Tips1.htm

Numberone son bought a used dash unit that we had to go thru, combining parts/gauges from 3 different dash units to get to it to work. I think someone just plugged the dash to the unchanged wiring....hoping it would work.....and let the 'smoke' out of the gauges.

Jim, those white face gauges look awesome. I usually don't like that because they are usually aftermarket gauges and I like the style of OEM, but that is a clever way to modernize and keep the classic look! I'm gonna think about that when I get to painting my bezel since my interior is black with grey accents. How did you get the gauges mirror imaged like that though? Purchased?
