BB swap into blazer crossmember question
I have started the BB swap in my blazer.
before i get to far I am seriously considering moving the engine forward 2" or so to gain more clearance at the firewall. I also would like to be able to remove the oil pan so I am looking at using a '73 and newer crossmember. Has anyone done this? How much modification is involved? Anyone have a spare crossmember layout around? (In the Portland area) any other issues with the swap would be appreciated. Cheers. |
Re: BB swap into blazer crossmember question
It's been discussed both in the blazer section and the truck section's a fair amount over the last year.
2wd or 4x4? Try going through the search function and I'd bet you'll find some great info on it. Cool mod, good luck with it. |
Re: BB swap into blazer crossmember question
Here are two links for the article on using the later crossmember.
link 1 link 2 Burt4x4 used this type crossmember when he put in his 454 and had to do very minor firewall mods. He does have a 3" body lift I believe. I stock with the stock crossmember on my 69 K20 and had to make major mods. You can see info on my swap on my website listed in my sig. |
Re: BB swap into blazer crossmember question
I have all the pieces off a 86 burb and a 72 burb. I haven't actually done it yet but between the eye ball and tape measure it looks Like it will work well, maybe a slight dimple on my firewall. I have seen enough differences in firewalls between my other trucks and other peoples, so it may not be true in all cases.
I like the newer crossmember because of clearance, cheaper mounts and can get the oild pan off if needed. Good luck |
Re: BB swap into blazer crossmember question
My 72 has a BBC sitting on and in the SBC mounts/position. Everything fits/works. The BBC is stock w/manifolds so no headers, but thats the way I like it, and the HEI is right there on the firewall, but no biggy. I can try some picts, but I know there is a post of mine back when I got the Blazer, so search for a post from me and you'll see the BBC sitting pretty without any mods at all. Use the SBC motor mount to mount the BBC to the SBC frame mount and everything will line up.
Here's the link to picts, I know you can't see it well, but I assure you it is inthere with clearance on the SBC mounts. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=187042 |
Re: BB swap into blazer crossmember question
Im doing the same thing , be careful not to get too much weight forward, or you will have major traction issues.
