how to replace ignition switch?
Right now the key for the ignition will pull out when the truck is on. LMC truck has a "ignition lock cylinder" for $19.95. I"m putting in an order and that seems really cheap the replace the cylinder. Is that all I need and how hard is it to replace the switch? What are the steps?
thanks. |
Re: how to replace ignition switch?
you might check an autozone, or a chain parts store, i think they would be a little cheaper, i don't know about the other

Re: how to replace ignition switch?
Chevy Duty (or whatever they are called now...) sells a replacement that has door locks that are keyed the same as the ignition. I think my set was less than $30. like 82C10 said, I'm pretty sure you can get just the cylinder at any auto parts store.
I have some info saved at home that I can send you with instructions on pulling the column apart to replace the cylinder. I got all of the links from here, so you should be able to use the search function to find it. PM me your email address if you can't find it, and I will email it to you. Slonaker |
Re: how to replace ignition switch?
ignition switch is on the lower part of the column ....so be careful what you ask for when you walk into Auto Zone or whereever.... make sure you say lock cylinder if thats what you are needing.

Re: how to replace ignition switch?
I just bought one for my 76 at autozone for $14,It was pretty east to do just take off the wheel& turn signals. Its a little clip you have to push in and pull the lock out. Newer ones have a screw
just take it off. |
Re: how to replace ignition switch?
It's not a bad price if it's a GM part. Some of the aftermarket ones are ~$12 at a chain parts store. I personally prefer the ones where the key will come out in any position.
