1989 swap motor & trans to a 1994 silverado
Hi guys , I need info for a swap I want to make. I have a 1989 1500 with a 350 (50,000 miles ) A 700R4 transmission (800 miles ) a new Radiator and front Brakes (40 miles ) wrecked on right front (18 year old's failure to yeild ). I have found a 1994 silverado with a bad motor and transmission . How hard is it to use this transmission in the 94 ?
Thanks , THE BLACKSHEEP |

will I have to use the computer out of the 89 for the transmission to work, if so what about the gauges and the abs system on the 94 ?

i think you use your 94 computer because 88-95 were all throttle body engines and the 700r4 dosent use the computer but the 94 might so i dont know??

If you are hooking up an 89 system then use the 89 computer. The late model vehicle may be set up for the 4L60E tranny and the 700R4 may confuse it. If the 94 has a 700R4, then bolt the motor in and hook it up to the newer computer.

The 700 does not use a computer but the 4l60e in the 94 does. The connector on the side of the 4l60e also controls the speedo and who knows what else. You probably would have to swap the comp and a few other things as well.

Re: 1989 swap motor & trans to a 1994 silverado
There are electrical connections on the side of the 700 R4 that are controlled to lock up the converter, these are usually controlled by a signal from the speed sensor. The tranny could either have an electrical or a manual speedo transmitter or gear. My 91 has an electric speed sensor and that feeds the electric speedo inside the truck. So there is a reason to keep the associated computer, or get someone to set up the tranny to the new one.
