sand blasting
 

well im gonna sand blast my truck tomorrow, is there anything i need to know or do b4 i do it, for everything off cept one outside mirror but i need that for driving, besides that what else? also what can i use to shine my front bumber up and take out the rust spots? thanks

Sandblasting tin is very tricky,as the heat generated causes warpage. A better way to strip it is plastic,or soda medeia(commertial job). then go carefully over the rusty spots with a sandblaster. I have done a little blasting on smallparts,& would not want to start on the tin on my truck.....69 longhorn.

i blasted mine with no problems. I did use chemical stripper to get through the first couple of layers and then blasted. Heres my bed in bare metal, if the pic works. http://www.freephoto-i.net/users/los...s/MVC-006S.JPG

I don't clame to be no expert, but where I work we have a whole area that is for sandblasting and I take stuff to them all the time. What I have noticed is they stay as far away as they can from whatever it is they are spraying to keep from causing small dents in the metal. Just a observation I made. Good luck.

BE SURE you wear earplugs, eye protection and a top notch respirator. Especally if you are using sand.

When you say you will be sandblasting your truck, are you talking about your whole truck or just the frame? Another thing you might want to do is take off any build up of grease because sandblasting doesnt work too good taking that stuff off.

in addition to respirator, goggles and earplugs, you should also wear coveralls cuz that stuff is gonna try to enter every orifice of your body.... wear a hat too..

Sheet metal on these trucks is pretty thick, you shouldn't have much problem with warpage as long as you keep the nozzle from getting too close to your work and don't blast an area any longer than it takes to get it to bare metal... good luck.

thanks for all the info but im done already, it went real well after we got the RIGHT sand, dad got some with gravel in it and it kept stoping up part of the nozzle, so we found someone in town that sells sandblasting sand, after that it only took about an hour. and yes i was talking about the whole truck(cab, and bed). the only thing is that after we got done, instead of it being bare metal it looks like it has been sittin out forever and it rusted. but owell its done. thanks for the help.
