WTB: Rochester Quadrajet 7040509.
I need a Rochester Quadrajet # 7040509. Mine is on a 70 GMC 402, and wish to keep the correct number. Mine has a bad filter fitting on the middle section of the body, only 1 thread is holding. Rebuildable complete or middle section is great. Let me know what you have. Can Paypal.
If there's a simple repair for this PLEASE tell me. Thanks, Greg |
Re: WTB: Rochester Quadrajet 7040509.
There is a simple fix, 2 different ways. One is in the help section of Car queat or Napa, it is an over size fitting and some of the carb rebuilding shops offer a repair service ( the carb shop, Sean murray or Murphy)

Re: WTB: Rochester Quadrajet 7040509.
I'll go looking tomorrow, Thanks. I did notice that amoung my 6 different carbs there are at least 2 sizes of fuel inlet/filter fittings.
Still would like another carb if anyone has one. Greg |
Re: WTB: Rochester Quadrajet 7040509.
I believe I have one of these you can have if you pay for the delivery. It came off a 402 I bought about two years ago and it was running well and passing smog then. It's dirty and I haven't pulled it apart but it's yours if you want it. There is no I.D. tag on this one is there any Identifying feature (I'm not into q-jets) Either way I can probably post a pic for you tonight.

The number is stamped on the drivers side of the carb, it runs up & down. From what I can tell, the 70 402 in Chevy/GMC trucks was the only one using this number. If it's the right number I will gladly pay shipping. Let me know. Thanks, Greg

Re: WTB: Rochester Quadrajet 7040509.
Oops sorry... I don't know what those numbers were I found the ones you are talking about after scraping off grime. The REAL number is 7041206 I looked it up on a rochester site and it decodes as a 71 chevy 49 state automatic transmission carb the breakdown didn't specify engine size it also says rochester wasn't known for number accuracy your number breaks down as a 1970 california or high altitude chevy manual trans. I found the info on the recarbco info site

Re: WTB: Rochester Quadrajet 7040509.
I found that same info. Mine is on an automatic, so they didn't stick to the numbers. I installed a thread repair fitting. It did NOT cut any new threads, it was approx a 1/4" longer on the threads which engaged some that had not been used.
Would still like to have a spare 7040509. Greg |
Re: WTB: Rochester Quadrajet 7040509.
I'll ask a few of my buddies I'm sure one of us has one we are all 67-72 truck nuts. If you find anyone who needs the 71 carb I'll still give it away for just the shipping it's been on my garage shelf for more than a year maybe even two and I sold the 402 almost as long ago.
