Re: the boys truck?
Thats a nice looking truck...I have a younger brother that was into the fast and the furious stuff...he wanted a charger bad but I build hotrods for a living so I showed him a beat up four speed 383 car with no motor or trans that needed both quarters and most of the floor that a guy wanted like 6000 for and then I told him how much the rest of the car costs to build. When he gets out of the navy I have a surprise for him but it's not $100,000 hemi charger lol

Re: the boys truck?
I like it, i'd a drove that as a teenager. Kids these days....sheesh. Seriously though, I think thats a pretty good looking truck and sounds like you got a decent deal on it

Re: the boys truck?
i think it's a smokin' truck for the money you got in it :)
kids never appreciate anything and always want the biggest, the baddest, etc. thing is, when they got that big badass ride, they wanna hot dog it and either kill themselves or kill the car. i think he should learn to tear the truck up, then go get his dream car :) |
Re: the boys truck?
Nice truck. I bought my youngest a 68 short step a couple years ago thinking he would enjoy it and we could work on it. Just before he was to get his learners permit, he said he wanted a muscle car - never wanted a truck. So we got him a 78 Camaro a couple months ago. Still a chevy and some of the same stuff under the hood, so not too bad. Hey, I am enjoying driving it too. But he'll want to drive the truck when I get done with it. Wife even said she would drive it if I put a nice seat in it.

Re: the boys truck?
Beautiful truck! Gotta love those GMCs man.
You're boy will come around, hang in there. :D |
Re: the boys truck?
Nice truck for 1300.00. Kids nowadays just don't get it. Already have a truck/car ready for them when they get there license and want something else. Ask him if he would prefer public transit:lol:

Re: the boys truck?
Tell him to drive it up here, my son will give him $1500 for it and a ride back :)

Re: the boys truck?
You did exactly what I do. I buy them what I want them to drive something big and safe. Not to mention a classic. And the ''price'' you are definately not in cal..Looks very sweet to me ..I know these imports get great gas mileage but they dont hold up very well when they tangle with a full size in a fender bender or worse...

Re: the boys truck?
A truck is a good first car. I had a dad tell me one time that he'll only buy trucks for his sons. He told me that they can't carry as many in cab. Less of a distraction. Never really thought of it that way before. I've worked some bad wrecks where I know the amount of kids contributed to the accident. GOOD LOOKING TRUCK!

Re: the boys truck?
That`s a great first vehicle,`68 GMC.Wait`til some other kids see it and say it`s cool. He`ll change his thinking, then. That a/c system prolly cost about what you paid for the truck.Hasn`t he seen "Dazed & Confused"?On second thought,he`d prolly only notice those muscle cars.Oh well.

Re: the boys truck?
I'm only 14 and I bought probably the oddest old truck around. I don't know anyone else my age who would want it. It isn't that fast of a truck but has gobs of power, it's loud, it rides so-so. Some kids are different than others, not all of them want the biggest and baddest vehicles. Plus I worked to pay for half of it, so that makes the truck valued more to me. But I'm done yapping.
You did good on that truck. It looks pretty solid. |
Re: the boys truck?
That's a great looking truck and the price was a very good deal. My brother gave my oldest a very nice chevette for his 15th, the kid wanted a new mustang. He's 25 now and drives a beater toyota. They need to spend more time WALKING to be thankful for great gifts of moblity, reguardless of the year/make/model. But that's just me.

Re: the boys truck?
OK.....first we need to address the dodge issue ....at least he wants the charger and not the honda/kia/toyota......he needs to understand that a classic GM is great, truck, car or hatchback (yes I would have driven a vega at his age!!).
I say give him a station wagon....that's what I had.....I guarantee he will reach a point where that truck is AWESOME to him.....although I still own a station wagon but thats another issue. $1300 sounds like a good deal.....as for the A/C I say roll the windows down and drive faster! |

Re: the boys truck?
for $1300 looks like you got one heck of a deal.
im 17 and have two of these trucks now. i love them and wouldn't take anything for them. maybe you could see what he likes about the charger and try put some of his suggestions into the truck. great father/son project. chris. |
Re: the boys truck?
good deal on the truck...my first ride from my parents was a 69 LTD
country squire wagon with the fake wood paneling.. so a nice truck would be a great thing. Dwayne |
Re: the boys truck?
That's a darn nice '68 GMC. I'd drive to Nebraska and give your son 1300 cash for it so he can start saving for the charger. I have a 16yr old boy who thinks he's entitled to something nicer than a old truck, so don't feel bad. My first car was a '57 International A120 pickup, straight six, 4 on the floor, vacuum wipers, no radio, A/C was a handle under the dash that opened a fresh air scoop on the cowl... and I was just tickled to death to have something to drive and a truck at that! What more could a boy want!
