Performance straight 6 parts

Does anyone know a good affordable straight 6 performance parts dealer besides cliffords? About the only parts ive found are cams, straight from the manufacturers.(Comp, Crane, Ect.):drama:

Affordable and I6 doesn't really go together well. Cliffords is the most popular choice, but there are others, but they are more specialized = $$$$

Captkaos is right, there is nothing cheap about working on a I6. Just a simple rebuild kit is about twice that of a 350. This also explains why you got so few comments on your other post. I also have a 79 with a 6 in it. Unfortunately, it uses about a quart of oil every 100 miles or less and has no power. And you have got to love the choke tied in with the oil pressure. What in the hell was GM thinking. It would cost me more to rebuild the 6 than it is worth. So soon, it will get my tired old 305, which is more that good enough for it.

dswancutt what do you mean about the choke and the oil pressure? mine just has a regular electric choke on it. the motor has either 140 thousand or 250 thousand miles on it and dosnt smoke or lose oil. it leaks a little around the side covers, just enough for dust and ddirt to stick to to make it look like crap. And my motor runs stronger than the 305 in my dads car. I have 2 fewer bbls, 2 fewer cylinders, 4 fewer valves, 55 less cubic inches, in a truck that weights a good bit more. Maybe this motor is an anomily. it even came with the most smog crap offered that year. i ripped it all off and it runs better now. any way thax for the comments

The choke is controlled by both temp & oil pressure. There should be a t on the passenger side of you engine that has the connections for the guages and the choke. Both my uncle and I have 79's with 250 I6, and both are about shot. But they both have had pretty rough lifes. You are lucky that yours in such good shape.

lol the motor runs god but the truck is far from good shape.the truck has a new rebuilt tranny (3 speed saginaw) and good brakes and the chassie is in good mechanical condition, but the body is rough and the interior is ragged out. you can tell it was a work truck lol. When i opened her up to replace the lifters, they were bad enough that i almost couldent get them out at all from were they were flanged out at the bottom. the bottoms were concave from all those miles. But the truck is a good project truck. you can see it at cardomain my username is the same as on this site.

My dad built his 235 strait six with parts from Clifford Reserch. Good prices and quality parts.

My 81' has the 250 straight six has 140 000km's (woo canada) on it and it runs like a champ. Doesn't burn any oil or anything. It sat most of it's life though, if it ever goes I too will be putting in a tired 305 but for now she's workin' good still. My performance mods are few and mainly to make it sound loud and a lot more powerful than it is ( 2 inch exhaust pipe a red bullet and a 3" boom tube tip). I haven't found anything else in this country either.
