options for 3.08 gears?

So, if I want 3.08 gears to put in my rear end, what are my options? Does anyone make aftermarket gears, or am I stuck finding something used which hopefully isn't too worn?

You can buy Richmond gears from Summit Racing or Jegs. It's pretty hard to beat their prices these days...:)

wow, that is cheap. now I just need to figure out if I have a series 3 or series 4 carrier.

but I don't really need to worry about this for about another month or two. getting the engine back in the truck would be slightly more important :D

hmm, that makes me think. Should I get a 3.08 gear set and a newer 5 speed manual with overdrive, or should I try and get a 2.56 gear set and keep my original SM465 4 speed with top gear at 1:1?

hmm...

I'd go with the 2.56. There isn't a 5 speed with overdrive that i know of that is strong enough to hold up bolted to a strong engine and last very long. (very long defined as 100k)

I have been having similar issues, I am installing a 5 speed with a nice 0.64 overdrive so you can still run low gears. the tranny i am using is a tremec TKO 600 rated for 600 lbs of torque i hear nothing but good things about it, but i also have a similar problem about the rear end...

how do I know what posi carrier i have? I have a used posi unit but I don't know if it is for a 3.42 and up ring gear or a 3.42 and down ring gear??
