I'm looking to change my 80 3/4 ton Dana 44 front hubs to the larger spicer 44 hubs from the mid 70's models, anyone ever do this? know where I could find the parts with disc brakes? thanks for any help 80 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4 chassis under a 49 International 1 ton |
Re: front & rear hubs?
C&C dually axle are scooped out of the junkyards fast, faster when you are in an area that has a high 4x4 population. Up here expect to pay 350-650 for one IF your lucky to find it. They are favored for their strength and compact size. Swapping in disks should not be to much of a hassle. Check out Blackbird's Custom trucks, they can point you in the right direction.
What are you looking to gain by getting the bigger hubs? You could change the outter knuckles with an older (71-74) D44 axle and get bigger bearings along with the bigger hubs, is that what your after? |

you can also find those hubs on 88+ drw pickups (as well as C&C trucks), basically anything with dual wheels.

Re: front & rear hubs?
Yeah I only want the rear hubs to narrow the rear end. I don't need anything else from the rear axle. I could used a wasted housing and be fine. I hate to pay $350 plus for just the hubs.
On the front I did want the bigger bearings and bigger hubs. Bearings for oversize tires and hubs for looks. I'm hopeing to find a couple of broken axles and just buy the hub hardware. Having a hard time located just those parts, my housings are fine. Thanks for any and all input |
