1/2, 3/4, 1-ton...what are the differences?
Have a line on a 60-66 (not sure exactly what year) truck. Guy says it is 2 wheel drive, and has 8-lugs.
If it's an 8-lugger, is that a one ton truck? If so, is it just the axles that are different from a 1/2 ton, or is there more that would be different? Just trying to figure out if it's worth my while to look at. Thanks. |

So then there is more that is different than just bigger axles and springs...?
I was thinking the frame would be the same...body too...just gotta swap out the axles for some 5 luggers (and appropriate springs) and be good to go. Anyone else? |

www.earlyclassic.com sales a drop spindle that lets you use five lug disc brakes.you will have to swap the rear end.

Re: 1/2, 3/4, 1-ton...what are the differences?
Hello Drogster,
I have a 61 Gmc with the 8 lug wheels. It sits and acts like a 3/4 ton. My Vin says it is a 1500. I have read that some of the trucks came like that. There is a GMC 60-66 website I beleive that is where I got that from. Bottom line, I am happy with it and every one else seems to dig the 3/4 ton look. I am no expert but This is what I have. Respectfully :) Billy |
