worn key, stuck ignition
The key on my blue 71 finally wore out enough it won't turn the ignition anymore. I can't even get it to turn backwards to engage the pin to remove the key bolsters and remove the ignition switch. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Take a small common screwdriver and insert just the tip in key hole far enough to catch the inside edge of the stainless steel face on the lock cylinder and pry the ss face off, once you remove the ss face the rest of lock cylinder will come out, then just pop your new lock cylinder in place of the old. be prepared to brace the dash metal with your hand while prying the face off so that you do not damage the lower dash area metal.

You could also try having a new key made.They tend to be a little rough when new and may catch well enough to remove and replace in the regular way.I have had this work on an ignition many years ago though it wasn't on a 67-72 truck.

FYI, I ended up having a new key made. Once you remove the lock cylinder the Key & Lock store can use the code to make an exact copy of the original. Thanks for your help.

I have a locksmith buddy that take the old key, reads it and clips out a new key. He does not coppy the old worn out key. This puts it back to like new, as all gm's tend to wear out the key. Any good locksmith should be able to do this:metal:

If you're lucky, you can pull the door lock and get the code off the outside of it, or take it to the locksmith if there's no code.
