67-68 1/2t vs. 3/4t leaf springs
 

Would the leaf springs in a 67-68 K10 bolt into a 67-68 K20 4x4? Are the half-ton springs as rugged/have as many leaves as a 3/4 ton? (probably not) I may be able to get a stripped 67-68 for 100 bucks, still has the t-case and axles/ springs and stuff. I was thinking I could get the K10 springs rearched and put them under my GMC, but wasn't sure if it would work. Thanks for the help.

Spring length eye to eye should be the same. The heavy duty 1/2 ton may have the same number of leaves as the std 3/4 ton however I wouldn't count on them being rated the same. Of course you can always add leaves to any spring and make it as heavy as you wish.

I had a '67 3/4 ton 4x4 stock springs. Could hardly stay in the seat. Terrible ride. Don't know if it had overloads or not. Didn't have it very long. I would try 1/2 ton springs. Just my 2 cents..........Rick

My truck rides real smooth believe it or not. It's bouncy, not rough. I wanted to get some leafs rearched 2-3in. higher and put them under my truck, make her a little higher. I could probably get another leaf put in them while getting them re-arched and make them 3/4ton springs. Thanks Rick and JAKE! :lol:

I`m not sure how the factory determined spring rates,but on a 1/2 or 3/4 you could have HD springs.Maybe an extra leaf,different taper,thicker,more tempering?I know you don`t want to kill your ride.I had the leafs on my`90 Blazer arched and they added a leaf to hold it.It rides nice.It`s a little different than Add-A-Leafs that are an overarched leaf you squeeze in there to "force" the other leafs to arch.When arching springs,the metal is actually "stretched" and this serves to soften a spring,that`s why they add another leaf(which is arched to a matched contour).I arched my own lift into some springs using an anvil.That`s stretching the metal.Start in the center and draw it out from there.I didn`t add a leaf.The truck never sagged while I had it and rode fine as stock.The 1/2t leafs may have a softer ride,can`t say for sure.But,what you`re considering is the best way to get a couple inches,not stiffen the ride excessively,short of buying soft design 2" lift springs.

Exactly. My truck rides well for a 40 year old truck, I just want it a little higher in the air. Rearching another set of springs that'll fit your truck is the best and cheapest way to get a lift, IMO.
