About those bed kits

:hiya: Hi everyone reading this, I'm new to the forum. I have a 70 Chevy SWB FWD fleetside. I went fixed it up and restored it about 12 yrs ago, but I never did anything about the bed. I'm from Reno NV. Yeah the home of Hot August Nights, what's this you ask it's a yealy car show that went big really big, 5000 entries plus 2000 plus other classic (72 and older) cars and trucks attend it's a week long event, lots of fun.
Any way I'm getting my truck panted again now and I want to put a new bed kit in it I'm going to shop around Hot August Nigths and find the best price on oak, bolts, and of coarse the stainless steel steel strips. I would appreciate any tips or hints on doing this bed kit up really nice. Sorry about the drawn out intro.:blah: the70chev

Welcome to the site!

I have been shopping around for a wood kit myself and the best price i have found is from classicParts. Im not sure of the quality but its about $170 cheaper than most of the others. I think I priced it one day and with the wood, stainless bolts, bed bolts, mounting pads and rear cross sill it was right around $550...not too bad.

bowtieogre I just called classic parts (formerly Chevy Duty) and she said it's a white oak. And I talked to this guy that's refinishing the original floor in my house and he told me that the white oak is more durable than a red oak. I hope that this helps in your decision making and let me know if you have any experience on these bed wood kits.

No on both counts. If you search the 67-72 msg section you can find threads like this and this. Plenty of guys and gals on the boards that have experience...just have to coax them out of hiding or search for old posts. Hope that helps.
