SMoothing out the top??

What all is involved in smoothing out the top on the Blazer? I have seen several painted that were as smooth as the body!

hammer and dolly all the dents, fill, prime, blocksand, prime, blocksand. If its still not straight enough prime and block again. If its really wavy you can even spray a polyester body filler on, block that out. finish it out with 180, prime, block.

It's fiberglass, so you can skip the hammer and dolly step. The texture is just sprayed on, so it can be sanded off. I would use 80 grit to strip it, if you haven't got a lot of bodywork experience. You will see the texture going away pretty quickly. Once it is knocked down, go over everything with 180, them prime and refinish as you would the rest of the truck.

oops!:ack: yeah what he said. Fiberglass is really nasty to work with. Better invest in a good respirator. You dont want to breath in the dust! Oh and it itches like crazy too..youll remember sanding it for a week or so after your finished. I would wear long sleeves and pants and tape up the ends to minimize the itch.If you put baby powder with talcum before your pores open up it helps a little. Not much! but when your sanding fiberglass every little bit helps! Ive worked on plenty of mid year corvettes. I love the itch!
