Stepside versus fleetside
Are the widths the same on these two beds?. I'm asking about from center of wheel arch on one side to center of wheel arch on the other side. Thanks

Re: Stepside versus fleetside
Boy, did I miss the crux of this question....sorry.
I have 10-inch wide wheels with a 4.5-inch backspace. They are tucked inside the confines of the fleetside bed. My Truck Data Book shows the exterior width of both step and fleetsides to be 79-inches, at the widest part. The illustration shows the tires to be centered on the taillights of the stepside. I don't know how much this data helps, so count me done. |
Re: Stepside versus fleetside
That's a tough question to answer... what exactly are you looking for?
The bed is made to go over the same frame and rear axle... The floor width between the wheel wells are the same... Obviously the step bed in general is narrower than a fleet... |
Re: Stepside versus fleetside
I saw a pic on the net recently of a 68 shortbed with slicks (4.5" offset) on the back that stuck out too far in my opinion and I was curious if I used the same exact offset on my FLEET if it would stick out the same. I was thinking maybe because it was a stepper it might be a little different outside width at the outside wheel arch but I don't know. I eventually want to put a 10 or 12" rim on the back and want to make sure they don't stick out past the body.

Just a stab at this, but I would think it will be the same ;)

Re: Stepside versus fleetside
I think the overall width of the bed is slightly different.
I remember a Board Memeber (think it was Jims70gmc) found this out when he did a bed swap and noticed a difference when he went from the Long Fleetside bed to Long Stepside bed on his 3/4 ton GMC 4x4. I don't remeber if he gave a measurement for how much it was different tho...I'll see if I can find that thread... |
Re: Stepside versus fleetside
They both should bolt on equally the same without fabrication. The only difference is the bed being wider on the fleetside. THe stepside anrrower, but not so narrow that the bolt patter nahd to be changed. As far as wheels that stick out, I doubt the step fenders would even be a big enough change form the fleetside to cover the wheels better. But if yo get big drag type tires, I bet they'd look sick on aa stepside bed with no fenders!!! (prob not legal though)

Re: Stepside versus fleetside
I believe they are both about the same,if not exactly.I can measure both today and get back.
