AOD tranny or Gear Vendors Overdrive?
Currently running a 1968 Chev long fleetside with a 250 and SM465. Considering a conversion to a 700R4, but have some questions....
Currently building a SB400, depending on the tranny rebuild of the 700R4 I choose to buy, what are the chances of me shredding this with a 400hp 500 ft/lb SB? Would a GV Overdrive behind the SM465 be more beneficial, and cost effective over the long run as compared to the 700R4? Just a weekend warrior, cruiser type with the occasional trip to work thrown in. Not a racer. |
Re: AOD tranny or Gear Vendors Overdrive?
The GV unit is pretty much INDESTRUCTABLE, but, it is kinda expensive.
Fir a driver, I'd say go for the GV unit. However, on a truck that only gets 5,000 miles a year, it'd take forever for you to wear out a properly built 700. |
Re: AOD tranny or Gear Vendors Overdrive?
thats kind of a loaded question, really its do you want a manual or an automatic transmission? Depending on the answer, you might be better to go get a NV4500, you could probably do the swap for less than the GV and about the same as a 700r4 built to handle your power, and you still get to keep your creeper.
