Picture hosting... anyone intersted?

I'm probably hanging myself here but... here goes lol.

Is anyone in need of image/picture hosting? I know the free photo sites are a pain in the arse most of the time and I see quite a few folks here complaining about them.

I run a webhosting business (on the side) and would be willing to setup a dedicated site for hosting pictures, running classified ads, Massive How-To Library and could be integrated with this site aswell.

Here's what I have planned.
Below are a few demo sites that are currently running the Photopost software (including my own)

http://www.zkast.com/photopost
http://dirtrider.net/TeamDRN/index.php

The site I have in mind would be run using vbPortals/vBulletin/Photopost. The pictures are viewable through the Photopost program and will allow each person thier own catagory(folder) to host pictures in. The best part is, each visitor can view the pic, make comments about it and even email an E-Card using the pictures.

The classified ad's area is just what it claims... It's a classified ad just as your newspaper would have. People can view the item, commend on it and send you an email if interested.

The How-To area will allow anyone that has written a how to article to post it and have people look through the listings for thier specific topic.

Hopefully with 5000+ members here, this wont get too large... But we'll give it a shot and see how it works out.

If this goes over well, I may also add the "members page" area. It allows members to build a few pages of thier own using text and images to display here...

What are you thoughts on this idea? If enough people want to use this service, let me know and I'll get the site setup asap.
This isnt meant to be in competition with this site at all! Rather to help its members. Images cost money to host but im in the position where it wont cost me a whole lot right now.
Pictures = loss of bandwidth. Bandwidth = $$$$

Moved to the 67-72 Message Board, maybe it'll get some hits there, hopefully!

I might be interested.
Let me know what the details are.

I am VERY interested. The last member who set one up for us, (i can't remember his name...some official GM web site guy)set one up and it was wonderfull, hosted giffs, and regular pics end everything. Some how, some one hijacked my album, and the site won't let me re-register now.
I belong to a few UBB boards, and this is the only one who hosts it's own pics. So i would use it for all my other board posting, plus I would use it for my multiple pic posting, and for my commonly posted pics...instead of wasting the space on this one with the same pics.

sounds interesting to me.

Ok guys, im getting things setup here. The URL will be

http://myoldtruck.com

It should be good to go in about 3 days depending on where you live (propagation time)

When the site is up and running, I'll fill you in on the details.... Basicly this will be a free photo hosting site for anyone here to use. At first I would prefer you only link to photos from this board. If things dont turn out to be a HUGE ordeal I dont mind you linking to other places. I really dont see it being a problem though.

If things go well, I'll concider installing a instant page maker for those of you that would like to build a few small pages describing your truck.

Longhorn Man 08-12-2002 12:45 AM

And that's why YOU are the MAN.

Zkast 08-13-2002 01:46 AM

Wow that was quick... The sites up and running!

Dont mind the images and colors... I still have work to do yet but the basic layout is ready.

Here is the direct link to the photo gallery:

http://www.myoldtruck.com/photopost

You'll need to register as a member to upload your pictures. I've tried to think of a few catagories to list your pics under but if you dont find what your looking for just tell me, I'll add new ones in asap.

Next thing on the list will be the LINKS area. Hopefully we can get everyones help in building a massive library of links for these old trucks.

Have fun with it and please let me know if you have any trouble or questions.

OH YEA>...... Its free!

This sounds like a great idea. Would be great if everyone would get at least a couple pics posted. Very convienent way to see other's peoples rides.

Whats the IP to the site for people who's ISP havn't updated DNS yet?

lux hauler 08-13-2002 05:46 PM

longhornmail......it worked for me

Zkast 08-13-2002 07:32 PM

With the way the site is setup, its not a good idea to use the IP. Cookies are set using the URL.

For those that cant access it yet.. be patient, it wont be long. Sometimes it takes 1-5 days for things to take affect.

Zkast 08-16-2002 11:06 PM

Sorry guys... Slight problem with the NS entry so the site will be down a few more days. Some of you may see it up as soon as tomorrow.

Basicly my dumb arse spelled the nameserver wrong LOL:rolleyes:
