Electronic rust protection...
... anyone tried it? Know about it?
http://www.counteractrust.com/counteract.htm I understand the fundamentals of preventing rust on boats via electrolysis using zincs, but its not the same idea. The website I posted has a lot of sales gobble-dee-gook and I'm having trouble getting my mind wrapped around this concept. I'd appreciate anyone's input and experience with this, "best thing since sliced bread?" or just another half-baked invention? :) |
Re: Electronic rust protection...
The metalurgy instructor I had in college had one on his Ford, and we got him side tracked one night while we were talking about corrosion of metals on why auto makers don't do a better job of corrosion resistance. He mentioned this and said about the one he put on his Ford when it was almost new. He said he didn't think much of it until his kid accidently was moving something down the driveway and caught the car in the process, putting a long scratch like someone would with a key down the side.............He said the next morning, it had a white-ish zinc like coating, and it never did rust. This car had an ungodly amount of miles and it didn't have much chassis rust either. And he said he was a believer to some extent.
I was going to try one, but I concluded the corrosion already started and was happening on a 30 year old truck, no matter how much restoration work, and I don't think it would work like it would on a new vehicle. |
