Fuel line hit's air cleaner
We put a stainless braided line from the pump to the carb.(edelbrock) & when I put the air cleaner on, the base hits the fuel line & you have to force the air cleaner down to get it on. Has anyone run into this? It is the Spectre line with the Magna clamp ends not the true an fittings. We did not have this problem with the rubber hose.Could the braided hose be THAT much thicker?
Also, it is hitting about about 1 1/2" out from the carb. |
Re: Fuel line hit's air cleaner
Your rubber line was probably hitting it and you never realizrd it.. at least that's my experiance.
You can buy a new plastic air filter spacer at most of the parts stores, or in the junk yard on any chevy van from the 70's or 80's, the taller the spacer, the more likely you'll need a new stud though...esp if you go the van route. |

Here's how I did mine, goes to the back of the carb and makes a 180 degree turn up and back towards the carb. I know you guys hate the glass fuel filter houses, lol...I also have a Summit ceramic filter at the carb and a fuel pressure gauge.

Re: Fuel line hit's air cleaner
i had to buy a fuel line from checkers that goes straight down from the stock location and under where the choke would sit (chrome 90* line). they do make an air filter base thats built to go around the eldelbrock fuel fitting but i already had a good air cleaner so i didnt want to buy another.

summit, speedway, edelbrock, hollet, jegs.pepnoys napa advanced auto auto noze all offer fittings that you can reroute your fuel line with to clear your air filter// the trick is you just have to outthink it

Not sure about your fit problems witout pics, but...
It sure looks like Edelbrock's line & filter (no da**ed glass & clamps) kit is hard to beat. You just add AN/braided line to the fuel pump. There are also some nice alum carb-to-air cleaner spacer to give you a little more clearance. |
Re: Fuel line hit's air cleaner
I see 2 problems with that... if it is chrome, then I'll bet it is chrome on the inside too. It's a PITA when the chrome flakes get in the carb. I've had it happen a few times.
Also, there is no reason in the world to run the fuel so close to the engine (heat source). It's just askin for trouble. (vapor lock trouble... not fire trouble) |

It seems to be hitting right where the box is. I think a spacer should do the trick.
I posted the pic & the box did not show up. It's about where it starts to bend. |

I have an edelbrock 750 with electric choke and an edelbrock elite air cleaner sitten on a performer2 intake on a bbc and here's what my local speed shop sold me.
6AN carter afb adapter part# aqp fcm2112 for 5.95 6AN 90degree hose e part# aqp fcm4032 for 15.95 I got this a Martel Bros. Racing in katy tx and they aren't usually the cheapest but they always steer me in the right direction and I can ride my bike there. |
Re: Fuel line hit's air cleaner
mine is setup like PICKMUP but roach's idea is better for you since you running braided lines already.

Re: Fuel line hit's air cleaner
What You Need Is Called A "banjo" Fitting. Edelbrock Makes Em, & I'm Sure Other People Do Too. It's A Hose Fitting That Replaces The Straight One Going Into Your Carb With One That Is 90 Deg. & Swivels Until You Tighten It Down. I Think I Have One Around Here. I'll Try To Find One & Post A Picture. John
