Grill cleaning

Is there way to clean up a front grill so that it looks good. My grill on my 1970 Blazer needs something done to get it up to snuff. I checked into crome plating and they wanted $1000 . The powder coater said he could do it, but it would not look right. The last option is polishing, but I do not know how good that would look. I heard that these grills were factory anodized and they do not polish well. Is there anything that will get this thing looking close to the factory look with out breaking the bank. I want some :bling:
