Ever let your truck sit too long?
 

WELL DONT! My father and I were moving around our 'project' trucks tonight and had a little trouble.

First, the 83C10, sat all summer, dead battery, flat tire. Blew up the tire, jumped it, and problem #1 water pump making noise(bearings are shot). I go to move it and lose the brakes, a line popped.

Next-84K30 dually dumper, try to drive it and left rear tire spins, RR is locked up. The brakes were disconnected and moisture got it, locked the brakes. OK, go to shut the truck down and guess what.....ignition is locked up, truck wont shut off. :b69: Vise grips and WD-40 fixed that, then we lifted the rear of the truck with the backhoe and rolled it to the side.

So now we have brake lines to replace, and brakes to unfreeze, and a possible broken ign lock cylinder on top of all the other work these trucks need.

Just wanted to say....even if its up and down the driveway, keep these trucks movin!

Your sounds like mine was at one time. I had mine in a pasture for two years. Had to get a new engine but still on the road now. Now I"m working on the blazer in my growing less free time to get it driveable. Glad to see another person getting some progress on a truck.

My truck was down for 10 months a couple of years ago while I was doing some major work on it. I learned from that to approach things as a series of small projects instead of doing things all at once. I found out I don't have a long enough attention span to do major projects. No frame off projects for me. It would take a decade. :)

I also learned that I have too many projects, too little money, and too little time. :( I'm sure no one else here has that problem, right? :lol:

How did you use the vice grips and WD-40 to unstick that ignition? I have the same problem on mine and haven't found a column for it yet.

Great advice! I make a point to drive mine once a week up to highway speeds with a little stop-and-go thrown in.

haha, taking the truck home tonight, above 40mph the truck would wobble and shake like a mofo. felt like the wheels were gonna fall off. i hadnt drove it in a few months, and i guess my dad didnt drive it either, so the tires had flat spots in them from sitting so long.

after 15 minutes of driving they went away and all is better now :)

My 78 sat for 3yrs getting fixed. When I scraped the gas tank of the deposits from the crap old gas there was pin-holes eaten into the tank everywhere. Amazingly the tires were ok even in the AZ sun and 110* heat...

Man im sooooooooooo glad Im not alone in this world. Got a 3 yr project so far, had it sit at my brothers house 1 yr , power stearing stopped working, breaks got weak, now no break lights or flashers,and yes tires got flat spots in them now. JUST GIVE ME 1 GOOD SHOT AT A CLIFF

well my truck has sat for a few months. went to start it last week and get a loud bang. motor was seized which broke the nose cone off the starter. ive freed up the motor but need a starter.

unfortunatly ive had enough of my truck and am going to sell it.:(

I think the truck would win from what i see going down the highway....

and who uses bias ply tires anymore?!?!?!?!!? Even i swapped mine out a few years ago!
