Transmission switch?

I am looking to change transmissions in my "72" from a 400 auto to an overdrive in order to increase my mileage (interstate driving). If I use either a 200r4, or a 700r4 what changes must be made, ie: shorten drive shaft etc.

as far as i know, shorten drive shaft, have provision on carb for kickdown because the th400 is electric kickdown and the others are cable.
