How much would you guess these trucks are worth?
5 Attachment(s)
I was talking with my father about much work goes into some of these trucks. Anyways to make a long story short we some how got into the conversation on how much these fixed up trucks are worth. So when i got home i looked every where and didn't find any "really" fixed up trucks for sale. I guessed at saying that some of these would be in the neighbor hood of 35k-45K. My father said no more than 30K and probably closer to 25K. So i told him that i will talk to you guys and to help us settle this. I hope i am right:lol: Here is a couple pics that we were talking about. One more thing. Imagine that neither one has magazine exposure cause i know that can affect it a little.

Re: How much would you guess these trucks are worth?
i'd say both are 30k plus trucks maybe closer to 40k but thats just an opinion, cause its like i say its really worth what someone will give for it!!!

Re: How much would you guess these trucks are worth?
To me, not much more than what the drivetrain and sheetmetal are worth.
|
Re: How much would you guess these trucks are worth?
What are they worth or what did they cost to build? I would say cost would be between 50-100K, I know that sounds outrageous but ECE used to have a Rodsteration project truck on their site and that cost 50K+. That truck wasn't even close to those trucks. I bet just the paint, rims & tires would be over 10K.

Re: How much would you guess these trucks are worth?
I say every penny put in plus the time it took to build. Our own greens69(Steve out of Texas) owned the blue one but I believe he sold it. see a build thread here. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=174282

Re: How much would you guess these trucks are worth?
Just the paint would be 10K if it was farmed out

Re: How much would you guess these trucks are worth?
Does anyone know how much he sold the blue truck for? That thing is beautiful and it is kind of close to stock. At least compared to the yellow one. Absolutely beautiful!

Re: How much would you guess these trucks are worth?
These values are like the weather. There`s alway going to be a mold-breaker or two.The amount you`re arguing about is in the same ballpark as far as these trucks go.It all depends on the work done and if the right buyer wants it bad enough. The trucks you`ve shown are in a high-end class. It really doesn`t matter,at that point,if it`s a 67-72 GM truck,a`65 Mustang,`63 Grand Prix,`49 Ford,`55 Chevy,`63 Duece,`48 Chevy truck,or a Studebaker.Look at this point.Guys pay $50-$100 grand for a chopper. No tunes,no passenger seat, and no comfort.

Re: How much would you guess these trucks are worth?
sorry but those trucks would sell for 50-60k or more, and i think it would be pretty easy :). you see stuff that is nowhere near that quality on eBay going for 60-75k on any given day of the week if you look really hard. if it's professionally built by a big name, tack on another 25%.
that blue trucks looks like it's got an LT1 in it - which is probably $10k with all the chrome parts and drivetrain by itself. $15k or more in paint and body work. think about the interior, glass, all the replacement stuff, aftermarket A/C, body drop, bagging the truck (all new suspension, bushings and other crap), probably a new rear end, bud, body panels, the radiator alone would be around $250 for a decent one and $500 for a good one. if somoene would sell one of those trucks for 30k, i'd be on it in a flash. ain't gonna happen though. |
Re: How much would you guess these trucks are worth?
Unless you did all the work yourself and did it for a living, you would get about 30% less than what you spent building it. These trucks go up in value every day and have just started to come of age for collectors. But the problem with heavy mods like that is the buyer would have to want those and the upkeep on it would be huge unless you knew the rig.
You could get $50k for something like that, but it would have to be th right buyer. |
Re: How much would you guess these trucks are worth?
sorry, but if someone will pay $40k for a raked chopper that is nowhere near as custom as what you see in those trucks, they would pay more than 50k for a truck like that :)
it's all about whether or not you want to personally do the work! |

What I will say is that most people are like abadsvt's Dad and don't know the cost to build a car/truck to that level. It's hard for them ti imagine what the value might be. qksilver is correct that the paint alone is 10k+ when done to this level. There are two totally different subjects being discussed here. What they cost to build, and what they will sell for. If a shop does all the work, it's not hard to get 35-45k tied up in a project. If it has radical body mods, paint from top to bottom, and a killer interior 50-60k+ is not uncommon. Will they sell for that? No! If your lucky, once you get past 30k you might get60% of what invested. |
Re: How much would you guess these trucks are worth?
So what you are say N2TRUX is that with 30k invested you will be lucky if you get 18k for it? I know that you rarely if ever get what you put into it but that seems a little to low. I am not saying it doesn't happen but if you invest 30k i think you might get 22-25k. At least that is my opinion. Also i understand about you not telling us the price for that blue truck for respect to the owner. Could you give us a large ballpark? I want my truck to be pretty darn close to that blue truck. Maybe a mix between the blue and yellow one is my goal. Anyways thanks for all the comments and please let them keep coming!

As some have said it depends on the level you build them. I just finished building mine and went just a little different than these guys. If I did something or put something on this truck I did not go the cheapest. In fact this truck has just about the best of everything I could find.
When I started this project I was heading down the same path these guys went and shaving everything. After tearing the truck down and stripping it I decided to go back with the trim as everyone was shaving everything. Again, my choice maybe not yours but I wanted it to be different. I have always been told that if you are going to have a show quality paint job it is going to cost you. Even if you do it yourself you end up with alot of cost and a ton of time. I do not paint and had to call on someone else for this. I am into this over $10k. You can see a reflectionin this custom green paint just like looking into a mirror. These are not much different than street rods and when you get to this level you can see around 50 to 60 cents on the dollar. There are some trucks that have gone through the Silver Auctions like Hot August nights and Barrett-Jackson's auctions that have brought upper 30's and low 40's. I just had mine appraised and they appraised it at $48k. The problem is there are not alot around at that. I have turned down offers that have come in from $25k to $32k. The interior has been wrapped in leather including the door panels, head liner, dash pad, and bench seat. You can get a ton in the interior just keeoping it simple like this. Gauges get very expensive, the air ride setup from Air Ride Tech is not cheap. I took off my power booster and went with the electric master cylinder like the one on copper head. These are 1k just for it. I ended going alot different than these guys in the engine compartment and did a supercharged big block that is pushing more than 700 horse power. This are also adds up EXTREMELy quick. Sorry for being long winded. Most people do not go to these extremes and don not really know how much time and work goes into them. With that being said you can build a great truck for a lot less than some of have. It all depends on what you want. |
Re: How much would you guess these trucks are worth?
The inspiration to build something even close to one of those is the priceless part.
Besides my 72 suburban I have a 67 CST Long bed fleet, I picture working on it with and for my Son who is 16 months old now, the thought of it makes the whole world right. With my Wifes help i will post pics sometime soon. thanks for listening. life is good. kent |

I know who own's the blue one. He has way more than 30K into it.

Re: How much would you guess these trucks are worth?
What they might sell for is a really tough question as it takes a special buyer to be interested. If you watch some of the barret jackson auctions, the mopar muscle cars, Mustang-Camero-Corvette-big blocks -etc. bring way over $100K. Trucks don't bring anything near that yet their cost to build a show truck is not much different. The demand is MUCH lower from a buyer perspecitve. I would bet either truck cost well over $60K to build but wouldn't bring near that at auction which makes building one a work of love verses good business sense. It is very rare to see a professionally built 67-72truck or blazer - bring anything close to or over $35K so build them as you like but don't expect to get rich in the selling process. Of course there are always exceptions butttttt, I haven't seen many in 25years of messing with these trucks.

Re: How much would you guess these trucks are worth?
Back when our trucks where new they were used as TRUCKS not like today. So the mustangs, cameros, vettes, etc. people get because they had one in their youth or wanted one. So i think that is another reason for the price difference.

Re: How much would you guess these trucks are worth?
Those things are dime a dozen...they whip em out on tv all the time in a week.:) :) :) :) :)

Re: How much would you guess these trucks are worth?
They're worth whatever someone is willing to pay for them.
|
Re: How much would you guess these trucks are worth?
They are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them ... regardless of what it took to build them.
|
Re: How much would you guess these trucks are worth?
I think your arguement, bet,or whatever is pointless.First of all, your prices are in the same neighborhood. But mostly, you can`t say how much "they" are worth. You need to discuss how much "it" is worth.Every truck has it`s individual value based on condition,extent/quality of work, looks, model, factory option and/or upgrades/modifications,etc.You could pick an original factory model, like a`68 short fleet 396 CST,fully loaded and attempt to come close to a national average of what they`d go for. But,anything custom is all alone. There are tiers of ranges for values, like $8-10,$25-30,$40-50 thousand bucks. That`s the best anyone can do.Book value? That`sall b.s. on these trucks and goes in one ear and out the other for me.That just gets guys asking too much because they think they have something better than they do.I don`t put stock in appraisals either. That`s just for replacement cost for the insurance company.

Personally, I don't care what mine is worth (except for insurance reasons) because I will never sell the ones I have now. I sold my 68 when I was in the ARMY and have regretted it since. |
Re: How much would you guess these trucks are worth?
the really nice blue truck is in texas. I talked to the new owner, he had just bought the truck from the two guys who built it together. It had just come out in the magazine i think classic trucks i do not remember which magazine. I am sitting at a little bitty truck show and here comes the blue truck. I had the magazine in my truck on the seat. The men built it for around 75k. They gave him all the reciepts when he bought the truck. The new owner told me he had just sold something else he had and bought the blue truck for thirty eight thousand five hundred dollars. He drove it to the show from where he lived which was about 45 minutes away and was scared every second that he would get a rock chip or something would happen to it. This is what he told me. later
