One Wheel spins w/Locker
Bad news.I have the No-Spin in the HO52 and only one side spins. It spins full-time,like a go cart.I can`t back up my stone driveway. When I hit the gas,it pulls to one side. When I let off,it goes the other way. What could be wrong in a locker to make this happen?Something sheared? We didn`t notice anything when we cleaned the packing(foam from peanuts)we didn`t notice anything wrong. We`re going back in this week.Fortunately,I have another.I`ve never heard of this before.I never considered that anything could "not work" in a locker. As long as the carrier wasn`t broke and splines looked good...???

Does the other side do anything at all?
How about in a corner? How's it act? |
Re: One Wheel spins w/Locker
I bet you will find a busted spring. ;)

Re: One Wheel spins w/Locker
Are service parts available for these? The passenger side spins full-time,nothing on the other side.I drove it very little, but it seemed to make a "clink"(as opposed to"clunk")when making a turn a time or two.Once,it felt like the other side slipped and the motor revved jusy a bit.It didn`t happen driving it.I drove it home from my friend`s shop in town(5 miles) and drove it back.I guess the spring could have been so fatigued it broke right away. There is no bias, just one wheel all the time.It acts like I have no clutch action and wants to spin the one tire or chatter.
Jeff, how`s that TracLoc up front? |
Re: One Wheel spins w/Locker
I have never had to buy parts for one, but I think all the parts should be available except the sidegears that the axle shaft splines slip into. Those have different splines than the later 14 bolt. I'm pretty sure all the other parts are identical to one in a 10.5" 14 bolt. My "new" trac-loc up front has actually been in there for many years now. I think it performs as well as the day I put it in still. It's been thru pond flogging, mud runs, hill climbing & truck pulls (on smaller tires) over & over. I know some guys burn the clutches out of them easily, but I think that comes from standing on the stupid pedal without mercy while one tire is in the air.

Re: One Wheel spins w/Locker
Yeah,I like the TracLok in front, too.I`ve also used the TruTrac and really don`t know the differenc.
On my locker.I think you`re right about the spring and it should be the same as on a 14-bolt unit since they are swapable units as long as the axles go with it.We would have noticed anything else when we inspected it.There`s no lash in those cogs, they`re indexed to only go together one way,and I hadn`t driven it a mile before I knew something was wrong.I`ll get back with my results by next week sometime so we can all learn something. |
