engine swap, what fuel pump?

i have an '81 k5 4x4, and i have installed a 5.7l fi engine out of a 94 c1500. i am now trying to figure out which way to go for the fuel pump. what year k5 came with fuel injection? i assume they had an in-tank pump. would that be a bolt in swap, or did they change the tanks. any info will be helpful.

Re: engine swap, what fuel pump?

87 up k5 had fuel injection. Don't know if tank is different or not, as both mine are FI. The tbi doesn't require that much pressure, so an inline elec pump will work fine if you don't want to put pump in tank.

The tanks are the same as suburban tanks, those are a lot easter to find around here.

A k5 tank mounts behind rear axle, a sub has saddle tanks. They are way different. That would be the reason the k5 has has a flat floor and subs have a hump under the seat like a truck.

Only the pickups have saddle tanks.

Any pump from a TBI motor will work on the sending unit from a '87-up Blazer/Burb.

OK, looks like I am wrong on this one. How do some subs have dual tanks? Some do have dual tanks, right? I havn't messed with a sub in a loooong time. I remember pops sub having a 40 gal single tank, so I guess you are right, no way a saddle tank could fit 40 gals. Also no way a 40 gal tank would fit a K5.
I WAS WRONG!

Suburban only had rear tanks. 25, 31 or 40 gallon were availible.

so if i have the entire sending unit/pump assembly from the 94 truck, i can use the pump with my blazers sending unit? or will i have to have the sending unit from a fuel injection blazer?

those 2 pumps would be the same, right? The top part that sits on the tankmight be different, but I think they are the same too.

I can't say for 100% that the sending unit it the same, I thing it was up to 92, but... The pump will definitely work. I will be using a Corvette pump on mine.
