A different console question

I've seen all the console posts, and the building of them and all that.

But my question is for those of us with a bench seat. Does anyone have a console? I have a little tray thing that has 2 cupholders, but if I make a turn, half the time it slides off into the floorboard. So does anyone know where to get a good one that will work with the bench seat, and how do you make it stay put? That or, I could build my own, then how would I get it to stay put? Thanks

Re: A different console question

I have one built from oak plywood. It has a cloth covered padded top for an armrest. Comfortable and functional, but not terribly attractive. It is nicely finished, and the top is covered with fabric that matches the seat so it doesn't look too bad.

It has fabric glued to the bottom to keep it from sliding around on the seat. I have a cloth covered seat, so it never moves around.

I buillt it around an adjustable cupholder I bought at Wal-Mart, so it holds everything from a soda can to a 32 ounce insulated mug.

I've seen a few different styles with a large 'tab' sticking out the back. this would go inbetween the upper and lower cushions. One that I've seen has holes in the tabs to let you mount it to the seat bottom.

I just glued that non-skid rubber stuff to the bottom of my plastic console thing like you are describing. doesn't move on the vinyl much at all.

in theory, couldn't you also put tabs on it for the center lap belt to hold it? and/or tabs for the buckle end of the seat belts to slide through?

ya, definitly, or even cut two slots in it to pass the belt through

I did not think of that - the rubbery bottom stuff.

But what I meant was, if it's in the floor - how do you get it to stay there? The tranny hump is curved on the edges, so it slides off. I looked on the consoles people have for bucket seats, but I still can't figure out how it doesn't move around. Thanks
