Rockwell Woes

Ok guys, the shop that has my truck has come up dry on a Rockwell T-case for my '69. He thought he had one bought, but it turned out the yard that had it had mis-identified the case. If anyone has one to sell, I have a WTB on the Parts and 4x4 Forums.

If none comes up for sale, is it possible to find the stuff needed to thoroughly rebuild one? The sliders are worn out, among other things, and some of the gears are chewed up.

How hard is it to swap in an NP205? Would I need more than the tranny-to-T-case adaptor and the driveshafts out of a later truck?

TIA.

What transmission do you have? If it was offered with the 205 you should be able to get a stock adapter and 205 and bolt it up. Not sure how it will effect your drive lines or if the tranny cross members are different. Also might need a new output shaft for the tranny. Around here(SE VA) in the local trading post there is always someone selling a 350/205 combo for around $400-500 even seen a SM465/205 combo for sell not too long ago.

Good point: I have the SM 465.

There are rebuild kits available but I think they only contain seals, bearins and gaskets. Your gonna have a difficult time finding gears and other parts I think. Give Boyce Equipment & Parts Co. a call at 1-801-393-0007, www.boyceeequipment.com as they are the ones that priced me the rebuild kit a few months ago.

You might also call 4X Heaven at 1-800-800-1679, www.4xheaven.com

Lastly, e-mail member Gregsplace as seems like he might have a Rockwell sitting around for sale.

If it were me and I was faced with your problem, I would do my best to switch to the NP205. I'm keeping my Rockwell as I switch to a 4 speed, but just because it is working fine.
