stage 1 - finally complete
 

I finally have the new 8 lug D44 under the rig with everything hooked up except the steering shaft which i picked up out of an XJ and will mod it at work on monday. I am also working on my front bumper so it fits correctly with the body lift. Then i can finally work on the 14 bolt. Disc brake conversion, spring perch change and shock towers.





Funny as i post these pics i can see how far out of alignment my front tires are. Oops i forgot, i need to align my front end too

Looks good, if you have any questions or want some pics of how to get the bumper to fit let me know, I just did this a few months ago.

Yes please. I think i have it figured out, but i dont want to re-invent the wheel.

Ok, here's some pictures of how I did it. I just cut the front of the frame off with a cutoff wheel, then cut 2 pieces of 1/4 x 2 1/2 x 8 CRS, then welded it up.

Heres what it looks like when it's done. I cut the frame 1/4 inch in front of the bottom hole on the frame. This should give you a good idea of what I did.

very very nice. Thank you. My plan was similar but not the same.
I cut the frame as well, but a little different. I notched it so the bumper could go up, and then put 3" spacers from the original mount spot to the bumper brackets. I do have a welder so i may use some of your ideas when i complete it.

I did the rear a long time ago and i didnt have to do any cutting or welding, however i did have to fab up new brackets.

So what did you do for the rear, I still haven't done this yet because I didnt want to do any cutting or welding that close to the gas tank. Also I noticed that you have a 330hp crate motor in yours, is it the one from GM performance parts, if so how do you like it. I'm asking because thats the motor I was thinking of getting for my Blazer.

well my rear has a bigger gap then the front, I couldn't get it up as tight as the front unless i cut. I'll go shoot some photos and show and tell.

Ok, i got the front bumper looking correctly located, but i really need to fix that bowtie.
also here's the rear bumper pics i promised. I have brackets that work but my rear bumper is in really bad shape.

Definately not for off road. Its a pavement pounder. It needs a frame off for show, and i dont have a place to do that so we'll say im doing it for entertainment. I'm a tinker'er and i'm always finding things i need to re-do to stay buzy. And what fits the bill better than a 35 year old rig :crazy:

So what do you have for lift to get 11 inches anyways? 8 inch suspension + 3 inch body?

I have those tires in 39.5x18 mounted on 15x16 welds, laying around...lookin for a home, came off my yukon. did you buy those on purpose? ;)
